I was playing on my fender this evening.. when I noticed some stings in the area below my right hand wrist.. I was like hmm ? Then I felt it again and again. On the thick E string. FOund out I got more than 5.000 volt in my body:O Like.. what the HELL!!!! It might be caused by me... rolling on my plexiglas desk-chair over my synthetic floor. There are wrist bands for this things but they.. are bad. So.. im trying to get de-charged over night. The worst thing was trying to see if it was gone... I was like.. ok ok... and bang.. "A small bang" . It hurts!!!! When I go over the strings , not touching them, You hear it crackle... Ill keep you updated!!

Well is it just you or something is wrong with the equipment ? Do your friends feel charges when touching the strings ?
I get "charged" from time to time and I hate it I make small sparks when touching people and objects usually from visit to the mall (floor is made from some material that causes it for me ) : )

are you sure it's static ? If it's something that sustains then I doubt it's static. Check your AMP, make sure you are using a 3 prong outlet and that it's properly grounded, then make sure the outlet you are using is grounded, you can also check the voltage of ground on your outlet to make sure you don't have a stray voltage issue. Often ground is not truly ground in a house. Also try another amp if you have one to see if it's the AMP. I have never had that happen to me, not something I would take lightly if this is an ongoing issue, especially if you play through a high powered tube amp those things carry lethal voltage.

Its not a tube amp.. but Ive never had this problem before with this amp. And my dad doesnt feel the static...

if it's just static electricity once you get the discharge it would be over and you wouldn't feel it again unless you are constantly rubbing your feet on the carpet while playing Is this something you feel constantly using the guitar ? Some people are more sensitive to voltage than others which may be why your dad doesn't notice it. Stray voltage is something that some are more sensitive to than others, happens in swimming pools that are not properly bonded/grounded and some notice it and some don't.

Also you mentioned 5 volts are you using a multi-meter or something, what exactly are you measuring to ground, your guitar strings are reading 5 volts to ground ? This may turn out to be nothing but generally when your guitar is showing a voltage to ground I would treat it as a sign that something is wrong and get it checked out, better safe than sorry.

Yeap,we had the same situation in a studio few days before,I touched my guitarist while he played,hehe,not a nice feeling.

Is the wiring in the guitar ok? maybe you should check it

Static can produce some noticeable discharges. Just make sure it is not the amp mate, get someone from the house to check it out. If the problem persist, maybe the amp is the problem.

I have a 68' fender super reverb amp which does not have a ground prong on the power cord and if I touch anything metal thats not attached to my rig or if I touch someone else, BAM!!!. It sucks when you are enjoying yourself, just relaxing playing music and you get shocked. I feel your pain.
