I'd love to be a part of a virtual band for the next month.

Metal and hard rock are my favorite.

I'm versed in recording my own stuff as well as creating drum tracks and bass tracks from guitar pro files for making backing tracks. So I could help there.

I have a limited amount of mixing experience but I love to do it. I'm just not a pro.

My firewire cable's missing but should be replaced by next week, so I'll be able to record.

I also have Reason and a couple MIDI controllers. If it comes down to it, I might be able to lay down some drum beat patterns and bass lines if nobody else can. Will need a lot of input on it though...I temporarily put the keyboard learning aside when I picke up guitar. tongue.gif

I would be willing to do this. I am mostly interested rock/metal and acoustic stuff. I have a cheap plug in mic, that should work for acoustic, also I can plug in my electric guitar to the computer through my amp (Peavy VYPYR 75). I have a drum set too, but I don't have recording equipment for it. If anyone can suggest a some recording gear for under 100$ I could record drums too.

For some reason, I keep thinking of that "Bear Infantry" pic that someone used in their sig a while back.

Your cheap plugin might be "good enough" to get it going. It won't sound good (has a single-mic drum recording ever sounded good?) but it could be usable as a scratch track...giving a real foundation to work from that would have more feel than me laying down some patterns on a drum machine.
jer
some cheap condenser mics as overheads on the kit will help.

But you'd need a mixer with phantom power then too....

Micing drums for under $100? Yeah, who are we kidding.....

Its cheaper being a guitarist!!!!

I would love to be in a band, im beginner/intermediate and Ill play all sorts of styles, classic to metal:D

Yeah, it would be hard for me to do drums, I was only suggesting in case no one else could. I think we would have better results from a drum pad though...

I've been thinking about figuring out how to trigger Reason with a Rock Band kit. I'm no drummer, but it's an interesting experiment
jer
There are vids on how to use the rock band kit in windows.

Google it.

Had been thinking about it more than researching it. Being USB, it's easier than I expected. I'm running on a Mac, but it's not that much different...just need an app to take the USB input and convert it to MIDI and set Reason to pick it up.

So, I just found out that audacity doesn't support asio, which isn't really a big problem just means I have to get a different program to record.

I was thinking mixcraft, I have the demo and it works fine with asio but the version I have doesn't let you export files. It's relatively cheap at 50 $ so it would be a good money conscious choice.

But first, before I buy a program, I wanted to ask you guys about what you use or if you know any good programs that support asio. Thanks in advanced guys.

Download Reaper. The trial version is free, supports asio drivers and will work indefinitely.

Ok, so I've been mostly checked out of GMC for the last couple of months. I seem to have popped in just as this thing's getting started.

Are we waiting on anything in particular to get started? Or are we giving more time for people to sign up before groupings are decided on, schedules get set, etc?

Download Reaper.

wow, thanks man for this link - it looks really promising smile.gif
Maybe do you also know of any cheap (if not free) drum machine?

I'd love to join a beginner band, although I don't have spare hours... I can make it a few hours a week. I play rythm guitar - hard rock and preferably metal.

Your welcome man. Cheap drum machines are going to be just that, cheap with minimal capabilities. Take a look at the Alesis SR model to save some cash. I would suggest you download the trial version of Addictive drums. Install the program in Reaper's VST file. You will need a host like reaper to operate it.

The trial version is very limited but you will be able to get a feel for putting together some of the samples to jam to. smile.gif

Hiya Skenny I'd like to register my interest in the VB again.

I like most styles of music but I can't shred to save my life so I best stay clear of them rolleyes.gif

I used to be in the original VB called Valley Soldiers with Leedbreak. I've lots of riffs recorded but I need another pair of ears to help to constuct songs.

I look forward to hearing from you

Thanks, I'll try this Addictive Drums. As a host I'm using VST MiniHost.

I woul like to sign up, but can you pick what you play?
ive playe bass for about 5 months now, but a played guitar for about a year an a half before that and I really want to play bass, (becasue thats what im doing with my not virtual band) so it doesnt interrupt my practice; and one question, are we not allowed to use audacity while recording? and if not are there any other free programs that we can use?
Ill play any style, preferably metal or hard rock, and preferrably nothing thta will require slapping, as i have no idea how to do that.
skennington
Glad you guys jumped in. smile.gif

@ Bucket86.. You can use whichever DAW you like mate.

No you're not cause the deadline is next Saturday... can't wait until then...

Btw, do all band-members need to be able to deliver a backing-track (drum and bass) for the rhythm/soloing stuff he/she makes? Or is this going to be the band-leader's or a volunteer's duty? If not I'll still need to dive into my drum-software that's been laying around for awhile...

Berko's right, next Saturday.. smile.gif

As far as backing tracks, this will be up to the band leader. If a member can supply a bt and the leader agrees, then sure. smile.gif I will certainly help if need be. Btw, why don't you sign-up for leader as well? Only 2 so far... tongue.gif

If I understand what you are looking for correctly, you could try Fantasize...

I'll try redownloading it... I can remember it was playing perfect when I was using it last time... (a year or two back). Anyway, it's really worth a view!

I thought this sounded really cool so I just figured out how to do this for my rock band drums. It was pretty easy took me 20 minutes, I used a program called drum machine, you can find it here http://andrewrudson.com/main.php. It's pretty cool you can program any .wav file into the pads, I think it's only for windows though. So, I guess I can lay down some drum tracks with the rock band drums now biggrin.gif .
