If you guys are serious about theory and harmony, this book is must have. I found out about it while I was at Berklee from professors and chair of Harmony department. Other professors who were performers recommend it to me and I got it without hesitation. I payed 50$ and it was one of the 50$ purchases I will never regret.
Read the whole book (it is very easy to read, follow and understand) and it goes from very basic to much more advanced things like reharmonization and other advanced concepts.

Read as in where notes are on the treble clef and things like that?

I only discovered your "Theory and Harmony" sub-forum today and have been scouring through it for all your precious jewels of wisdom! I haven't seen a mention of a sightreading book as yet. I have been thinking of pursuing that area only recently and would welcome your recommendation as to a good resource to help me along in that vein.

The best sight reading books are from Berklee press by author William Leavitt. His books are used for all Berklee Guitar majors that are starting with sight reading. They cover all positions, all 12 keys, do arpeggios, chords, scales...
I have to say I was doing classical guitar when I was 12 so I learned to sight read then with classical pieces. Later at Guitar Institute in London we had some sight reading classes but they were joke compared to classical pieces I did and exams I had. Berklee on the other hand was much more difficult in that area because you had to sight read for audition (ratings) and in every playing class (ensemble) we very getting couple of lead sheets a week that we had to sight read on spot (melody, harmony, rhythm kicks etc).

I can recommend William Leavitt's beginner book. Found it on sale on Amazon for less than 10$!!! Very good price if you ask me.

Thanks for the advice. Great to have someone who has had some experience in the area and can make an informed suggestion as to what is worthwhile. Often, sight reading texts seem to be geared more for piano players than guitarists. So it is great to find there is a quality text available for guitar players also. Gonna see if I can get myself a copy! Then one day I might be able to get more out of the Mark Levine book you recommended at the head of the topic.

Sure thing Neurologi. I am glad you will get a copy of it. I plan to do some forum lessons in future, in some of them I will definitely cover sight reading. Some of my MTP students mentioned sight reading as something they want to improve and learn, so I will work on that with them as well.
