Hi guys,
I started the Vibrato lesson by Marcus Lavendall and there is one part which i'm not comfortable with. Its the lick in the 2nd video of the lesson.
The first bend on the 21st fret should go up to the E (24th fret).I am not sure if I bend that much.I have the strength tho bend it.Its just that i'm worried that the string might snap. When i tried it i could hear a click kind of sound and it sounded like the string was going to snap so i just let go.
I'm using gauge 9 strings.
What am i supposed to do?
Frederik

Bending strings can sometimes produce a scrape or clicking sound coming from the nut, where your strings meet your headstock. What sort of guitar do you have ?

Sometimes rubbing some pencil lead in the grooves where the string passes through can improve this.

That particular string bend is fine.. a whole tone and a half bend is not anything to be worried about. With gauge 9 strings people can bend even 2 whole tones. smile.gif

make sure you use all three fingers to bend. It takes some strength but you get used to it.

There is a bend in a Pink Floyd song that goes from fret 13 up to 18... now thats a big bend!!

Often those noises come from a string tree on the headstock, or if the string is sliding up and down on a saddle.
Regarding bending one and a half step, just take it easy, it is doable through practice.

I'm glad you made it. You should get used to it over time and with practice. Generally you shouldn't worry much that strings will snap - they are much more powerful then they seem. Practice this kind of bend slowly on different strings to gain some strength.
