I had a medium sized Crate Amp years ago. I loved that little guy, the chorus and gain could make me sound so much better than I really was, heh.

I went straight from that to a JCM-900 half stack, and that's still what I'm using now.

I have 2 amps currently:

Ibanez GTA15R

I also have a VOX VT30. I'm currently wanting to get rid of it. I no longer like it.

I would like to get a Marshall, perhaps. For instance, I played this Marshall Haze 15 at a shop and enjoyed it. But I gotta play more Marshalls before I make a final decision.

I have only one amp and i don't use it often since i got a POD Studio GX. But i'm thinking about getting a new one soon smile.gif

I've had a few amps, pictures below.
Of all of them, the one I liked the best was the Mesa Boogie Mark IIC combo. If I were getting a new amp today, I'd probably go all out and get "the amp to end all amps", something real versatile that has a wide range of tones., but back then, it was more like ... get something that I can plug into and make big sounds with smile.gif.

In order that I owned them...
1. Sunn Studio Lead 100
2. Fender Champ
3. Peavey (Musician Mark II 400)
4. Mesa Boogie, Mark II
5. Marshall Studio 15

Here's a list of the amps I have at the moment and ones I've owned in the past.

- Peavey Valveking head
- Peavey Ultra Plus
- Jet City PicoValve
- Marshall ValveState VS100 Combo
- Crate GFX-15
- Estaban Belt-mounted amp

Which ones my favorite? Its a tough choice between the Valveking and the Ultra, but if I could only keep one it would probably be the Ultra. I would keep it because it is the most versatile and also because they're not that easy to come by. I will probably never again find it for the price I got it for.

That Hiwatt is one of the greatest amps ever made, definitely top ten in my books. So when are you gonna do a demo for us? biggrin.gif

I sold it mate, I didn't really find a valuable purpose for it smile.gif The Hiwatt is a 100W monster that is the loudest monster I've heard. It somehow has enough headroom and mids to eat everything else on stage. You can really get deaf if you crank the treble and presence (not kiddin!) smile.gif

However, it needs to be played cranked, and I didn't bother to get attenuator for it, or proper vintage cab that works the best with it, so I sold the head. I'm currently checking out something like Roland JC120, that's a nice amp for something I need, it's light, and transparent, and doesn't require too much space when carrying.

Currently I have only TC Electronic Nova System for digital situations, and OCD Fulltone for analog situations , and whatever amp I can find on spot. However, I have lots of friends/musicians who have all kinds of amps, so it's not a problem of gettin any. smile.gif

Peavey Renown. (Previously owned by a famous South African Band, still own.)


Hughes and Kettner Switchblade 100. (Sold)


Roland JC 120. (Sold.)


Marshall JCM 2000 and JCM 900. 4x12 slant front Cab and also a 4x12 straight front Cab.
(Still own but on a permanent loan to a good friend!)


Marshall 8008. (Still own and use.)


Various others over the years including:-
Peavey Solo, Laney VC30 and LC 30, Peavey Bandit and a few cheap practice amps of unknown make and dubious quality!!!

Hey Jones, that's a nice set right there! smile.gif You mind couple of questions?

Does the Peavey Renown 400 packs 200W or something? I heard that it is louud! smile.gif

How does the current setup serves you? I want to make something similar, only 212 and a poweramp. What's your opinion?

I regularly use a Fender Deluxe (for over 10 years!) and the Egnater Rebel 30 with 1 *12 Cab.
And I've got lot of OD & Distortion pedals ! laugh.gif

I've got a Laney Hardcore Max HCM65R



It's basically a cheaper version of the Marshall.
Good sounding, but I don't really like using the Cruch Factor on it much, as it messes with the other effect pedal(s) sounding.

I didn't have too many amps.

- Marshall 10 watt practice guitar amp
- Marshall 25 watt practice bass amp

and my main amp for gigs and everything is Eden nemesis nc115 bass combo amp. It's light and has a great sound. I also find it very versatile is it features cool recording output too.

I played a dead note. "This is going to be way loud," I weakly said. "Do it! Let's see what it'll do," he replied to me with a positive attitude.

I began playing RED's song, "Breathe Into Me."
It was loud, but thankfully I wasn't in front of the cab, he was.

Despite my continued weak remarks, he insisted on my playing it. Of course, I was the one who was playing. I'm just a passive person and I should've told him it was just too loud and stopped playing altogether. Plus it did fell cool, until I stopped and realized my ears were hurting. I felt like a wimp for a few minutes because I didn't want it loud. happy.gif I could tell by my friend's face he was thinking it was loud too. He was directly in front of it too, just a few feet away. biggrin.gif

I don't like really loud stuff. I like my hearing. smile.gif
Next concert I go to, I'm not forgetting my earplugs.

You're lucky. Most of shop people here tell me to turn it down laugh.gif

LOL, Ivan. I keep it really quiet when playing by myself. I'm really self-conscious about playing for other people. I tend to riff for others more often than soloing. When I solo I kinda mess up when others around. With riffing you can easily cover up mistakes.

I currently play through a laney 100 watt lead, it only has 1 chanel so I keep it clean and use preamp for tone
before that I had a Randall rg 120 and before that a fender 50 watt studio
and 1 thing I would like to add is that many of the combos I have seen only needed a nice solid backed 4-12 to sound much better

Blackstar HT5: Great little amp, unfortuntaely it was too loud for home use and got murdered by our drummer, it didnt last long.

Fender Blues deluxe:

huge clean headroom, gigged it a few times and it was monstrously loud, the loudest 40 watts in living memory! Good pedal platfor but a little one dimensional.

Really splashed out on this one, was meant to be the last amp I ever bought! It is a fantastic piece of kit, incredible tone and the most versatile amp probably ever made...but...weighed an absolute ton but the biggest problem was "Option paralysis" I would spend so much time tweaking the thing the rest of the band wanted to scream. Biggest problem though, failed halfway through a gig, unforgiveable, bye bye Mesa!

a very short tenure with this one, it was part of a swap deal for the Mesa, never got to use it live but I kinda regret getting rid of this one so quickly, it had masive tone.

the best Mesa ever made? i think so, an absolute peach of an amp, simple to use but with three excellent channels, used this one live a few times and it was just exceptional, the only reason this one went was because of the chance to own my current amp came up and it was hard to resist!

Matchless Independence 3 channel head, completely boutique hand wired head from Matchless, unbelieveable tone and build quality. Only 35w but it absolutely destroys the other guitarists 50 w JVM. Massive tone from this, truly an amazing piece of kit.

So how is the high gain tone on the Super Sonic? It seems like a pretty impressive amp. High gain tones with Fender cleans sounds like a winning combination to me.

Does it matter that none of my amps have a physical form? Cause I haven't owned in amp in about 2.5 years.

It goes pretty scorching mate! It has a dual cascaded gain stage that was on the pro-sonic, kinda like two pre-amp gains in series, its a really useful tool, if you hit it with a nice humbucker it'll do everything upto classic metal tones like ACDC etc, wont do super high gain though without a little help.
I used it no problem at all with the band with just a booster for lead stuff. It also has send and return levels on the effects loop which if you patch them out can be used as a volume boost as the loop is footswitchable they are seriously good amps and vastly underrated, I think people see Fender and just assume they are only good for cleans, not so! smile.gif
