Hello all, I recieved a new guitar today. A custom built Warmoth Strat....upon unpacking it i noticed a crack/stress fracture in the body...photo's below...


What I want to know is, what sort of complications will arise from this over time? I assume the crack will only grow and get worse.
I have contacted the supplier and I am currently awaiting their response.....

Any advice on this would be great...Thanks

I should add...it's not just the paint that is cracked, the crack seems to be about .02 - .03 cm deep

It doesn't affect the playability or sound in anyway....

That's so bad! It doesn't affect to the sound now but with some time that crack will grow... it could take years but finally it will grow so I think that you must contact the seller and ask for another one. At the same time.. if you ever decide to sell it the price will be lowered because of it so once again... ask for another one!

I am assuming you bought it new as there are bits of protective film visible. I am not knowledgeable in how the neck is mounted to the body with the Warmoth. With a reg strat the neck is held on with four bolts though the back of body into the neck. That neck seems to be bolted through the bottom.. must be going through a dovetail in the body and a tenon in the neck? (dovetail joint).

If the crack is though the paint and into the wood I would raise hell. There is stress in the area where the neck is mounted to the guitar and the crack is in a strange spot . It's possible someone either over torqed the neck mount or the mating surface(s) where the crack is have a high spot(s) that came into contact when the neck was tightened. If that were the case and the wood is involved I would venture to guess the crack will get worse over time.

Sucks that you get a new guitar and have to deal with hassle... bummer!

On the bright side.. I dig that neck.. looks like my Malmsteen

EDIT: Just looked at the pics again. The edge of the neck cutout on the body looks rough.. not a smooth edge. Hard to tell with the shadows but it looks as though someone stuck something in between the neck and the body in an attempt to adjust or pry the the neck into position. That could definitely cause a crack. I would send her back.

Hey mate, thanks for the reply. It is sooo depressing, the scalloped neck on it is awesome...Feels amazing, and perfect for my sliced up and scarred fingertips.
It does seem like the neck was overtightened and perhaps during shipping it has come away from the body and cause a crack...it's definatly into the wood...not just the paint. A refund i shall seek

I thought this was about your own body from the topic title... but this is much worst, your poor axe! Get it replaced or repaired asap.

Haha...I am old, but not that old I am falling apart haha. What sort of repairs could be dont to this? A small gap has opened up between the neck and the body which has caused a small crack....

Can this actually be fixed?

I guess you have learned your lesson the hard way... same thing happened to me years ago and ever since, i never buy guitars online. accessories are ok to get them online but for the axe, i wanna check my baby first, hold and try it then buy it.

I got your email about but it looks like you've already gotten some good feedback. Bottom line is you need to try to get your money back if at all possible. Don't trust for a second that the scratch is only skin deep until you take the neck off and have a look. My guess is the neck was "shimmed" at the vendor and then a bench tech over tightened it.

You'll have to take it entirely apart to actually see what the damage is. Has he stripped the screw? Cracked the neck joyce from the inside? etc. Best case scenario it's just the surface, but even then it's like a windshield crack. A bomb waiting to go off. This is just plain wrong and I expect more from Warmoth. I'd give them a serious piece of your mind and demand some sort of consideration for emotional distress! Those guitars are not cheap.

Yes definitely get the money back, and give em hell. The crack lowers down value of the guitar, and can potentially get bigger under pressure/use.

I agree, a guitar has to be tested first hand to decide!

Yeah, I thought this was about your own body too. haha..but that's too bad about what happened. I got lucky with my getting my Jackson online and it not damaged. But I don't want to do that anymore. I'm sure a store can get whatever you want so long as they carry that company's products.

I'd ask for another one just like that in return no refund, but another guitar, until you're satisfied with it

ahhhh...thats better...got a new one sent and it's perfect...lil weapon, playes like a dream....

took a few hours to get used to how different a scalloped neck feels....

the tone it has is awesome, Dimarzio Virtual Vintage Pickups (Blues-Neck, Virtual 2 "Heavy Blues"-Middle and Virtual Solo-Bridge)
I had read all the old posts in the forum about a scalloped neck, researched it, tried out a demo version for a bit then ordered it.
You have much better control over Vibrato and bending, but you have to watch the pressure on the strings, w/ Bending and the like otherwise it eaisly goes out of tune. But awesome once ytou are used to it
