Task 39: http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/California-Jam/

Hail, defenders of the faith ! Today I invite you to get your fingers around this lesson by Lucio.. a hard rock riff and solo lesson that has some sexy bending licks and legato bursts.

This is one of those solos that demands you still pay close attention to tone and getting everything to sound clear and neat.

It will be interesting to hear how your legato chops have been shaping p since the last time we looked at it, I'm sure you're gonna nail this to the floor cool.gif

Enjoy and don't get burnt by the Californian sun ! wink.gif

Deadline is next Friday 2nd November or, instead of California, I will send you to Siberia for your next 'on location' Task. ph34r.gif

I reckon you can do that man ! It looks a bit easier than that lick in Piotr's lessons which was very hard btw, you were right wink.gif

When I learned it I realised it wasn't the kind of lick I thought it was, so my hybrid picking suggestion wasn't really possible !!

Nice Ben! This will be tough but it will be a good measuring stick to see how my legato has progressed, which I think has been better than my AP. Doesn't seem too overwhelming like some of the strictly legato lessons.

By the way, the Apprentice task is badass too. I'm going to be optimistic and shoot for both this week.

Excellent stuff Gregster !!! As always, The Temple will benefit from your searing leads ! smile.gif

Well so much for recording this one. tongue.gif I went to start practicing to the backing track (after practicing to just the video) and he uses a different backing then the one used in the video demonstration. Basically that breakdown after the main riff isn't present in the downloadable BT.

So, I guess I'll just chalk this one up as I learned some new licks this week. Which is the main reason I like doing all these lessons. smile.gif I think the opening lick is the hardest. Quick pull-offs and hammer-ons and then going into that little sweep picking burst is tricky. I was still only about 80% speed with that one.

I noticed that too Degroot. The downloadable track seems to be an entire song at about 3.5 minutes. I couldn't seem to figure out which part he was doing the lesson over. I'd agree though that the first part is the hardest as well as the last legato part for me.

I did learn the Apprentice task this week too so I'll just make that my submission for the week. ph34r.gif

Damn.. sorry about this guys, I didn't notice this error until Hungry 4 Heaven pointed it out to me earlier this week dry.gif

Although, if you want to just upload some clips of you playing those difficult licks you mentioned, you're always welcome. Or just take the Apprentice Task this week instead.

Or neither of those things ! laugh.gif

Yeah, thats a good idea. I'll put something together soon!

Good news guys. The correct backing for the whole solo is near the end of the BT. Looks like I'll have a chance to complete this one after all. Probably a little after deadline as that beginning lick is going to need more practice! smile.gif

Seriously? And I JUST finished making my own backing track. laugh.gif Not nearly as good, with only drums and bass, but still.

Thanks for sharing your observation though! smile.gif

Isn't this always the way ?? ohmy.gif

Here where I'm at with this task. Would have sounded better with the original rhythm guitar in the backing to give it some needed heaviness. I'm starting to hear that organ and midi bass in my sleep so I better put this one up on the shelf for now. smile.gif

Not bad at all my friend ! That legato at the end sounds badass cool.gif

It's a shame the backing screwed you guys around this week... hopefully Task 40 will be kinder to you.... ph34r.gif

Now this is well done, indeed, DeGroot. I'm thinking that Ben had to point out in the Spider video that he is (still) the "Donut Master".

First and especially last licks are still a bit fast for me. I thought I was pretty good at legato, but I need to practice this one a bit more. I find the first lick difficult mainly because it's irregular or even unintuitive.
