Hey I've got an idea for the lessons here at GMC, no idea if it is good, but anyways

Well, I thought that maybe you could add like a listen only button to the video so it blacks out the screen, then you could use your ears to figure out the lesson, might be some great ear training that way.

I know it is a sort of dumb idea, since you can just scroll down, etc. But by doing that there is a chance you'll see the scales pattern and just overlook some tips without really wanting to and also when you have to pause the video and such you have to scroll back up and you might see some finger positioned and then you get a good idea of how to play the following thing.

Anyways, just an idea I had and thought i'd post it instead of just locking it up deep inside my brain

wow, thats quite a coincidence, i thought about the exact same thing today, though I just force myself not to look at the screen. thumbs up anyways, your idea is certainly more convenient! (:

Actually I like this idea as well, since you would have the best of both worlds, meaning you could try and work out the lesson by ear, but would also have a reliable backup to know if you are getting it right or not.

This sounds very interesting. It's a very good idea to use the lessons for ear training... let's see if this is possible with the current video player format. Thanks for the idea!

Well that's also something like that I meant when I stated 'It is sort of a dumb idea', but also as I mentioned you'd like to pause now and then, maybe now everyone but in my case since I find it difficult to hear a whole lesson in one take and then when you open your eyes again you'll might see some fingering position and something like that which might give you an idea and make the lesson easier to figure out for that matter

Actually I wasn't thinking so much in terms of being able to hide the main video, though that would be cool, but I was really thinking more of the slowed down videos the instructors do as they work through the lesson. Generally they play the phrase slow and then at normal speed. This would be perfect for ear training, though the tab they put at the bottom would have to be worked around somehow.Maybe it could be spoilered?

Not bad, through ear training you develop a sense of everything from timing, rhythm & melody. Makes you eve more conscious about the chords and the patterns.

As Todd says, for starters, it could be a great idea to turn your chair around and listen to the slow versions of the parts, until you can play them BY EAR. Tabs have a fault - they will never show you WHEN to play something, but rather just WHERE you play it as a difference from the classical written music notation!
