Not sure about free, but Reaper is pretty popular, along with EZ Drummer plug in. Reaper is priced according to how you will use it. Ridiculously low priced for a home user / band, and more expensive for commercial use. I found these two pretty easy to learn, and very rewarding.

For bass - thats a different matter. I am sure instruments plugins can be bought, but i have no idea where to get a bass from (I would like to know, though!).

I grabbed a demo of Sonar from the Cakewalk site (also available on Steam), and that was really nice and included a load of instruments, including bass guitars. Downside, its pricey. EZ Drummer is compatible with that as well.

So unless someone else can chime in with freeware suggestions, i would plump for a copy of Reaper along with EZ Drummer. Can't go wrong.

Sorry to hear about the CTS - hope you are better soon.

Sorry to hear about your carpal tunnel sad.gif Are you looking for PC/Mac apps or apps for ipad and that kind of thing? If it's for your computer, I'd say go download the SAMPLE TANK FREE from ik multimedia.

It's a sound engine with wads of free sounds. Youll need either a midi controller or some stock midi to drive the sounds.

Todd,

Thanks for the heads-up on Sampletank - I was looking for something for bass sounds, and as much as I'd like to get Trillian, financially, it's just not in the cards right now.

Thanks!

You are good to go on gear smile.gif SAMPLETANK has WADS OF BASS patches. Some sound like instruments, some are synths. But check them out. You can always add real instruments with upgrade packs. Sampletank is a great platform especially for free smile.gif

For your iOS devices, there is a FREE app called GROOVE MAKER That will generate drum and bass lines all day long smile.gif Here is a link.
