So i finally broke out of my rut that I was having and finished this, i'm actually happy with the results on this one. I've worked a lot on mixing lately and it seems to be paying off. I'd reallly appreciate if you guys checked it out and shared it if you enjoyed it. As always thanks to everyone here who has helped me become a better player and mixer (darius) lol
hope you guys enjoy.

That sounds awesome Marco!
Love the riff at 2:22 biggrin.gif

Awesome Marco!!!
I like all, the improv, tone, playing and the mix fits for my taste smile.gif
Actually I watch and always "steal" some tips from your mix mentoring thread biggrin.gif It's a thread (very hard for me) that I follow and I don't miss any post. Your way of making all the tasks very quickly is similar to my style of work so, it's a pleasure to follow your thread because all you do before remain very fresh in my mind wink.gif Your results are very visible and I like it smile.gif

BTW we also have something in common.....the same gratefulness for the same person that help us become better (Darius) laugh.gif laugh.gif ( you know...playing, plug-ins, video editing, lights video set-up, mix) biggrin.gif

The performance is fine. Mix is better than what I remember of your previous stuff but you should look at how you gainstage for recording and mixing. You need to get the gainstaging right from the start since not doing so will end up in a compromised mix.

Ciao Marco - your riffing is excellent as always smile.gif I miss a more stable structure somehow tho, as I don't quite get a sense of direction, yet. Have you tried to apply one of the structure formulas about which I remember us discussing? smile.gif
Ricky9
Sounds awesome!!!! good job.
Darius Wave
Well my friend...I'm more than happy to hear Your huge improvements. We still have a lot to tweak but comparing to the very first samples You gave it all started to get more professional approach smile.gif You're doing very well! Congratulations! smile.gif

Hey cosmin, Yeah I tend to just go with the flow but a structure is important for sure, I have to deff start working on that. I've realized that after watching some of the older videos too! I want to have structure but not the regular structure of a song where it's like a 90's rock song that's very predictable. I want something Katatonic haha but idk how to achieve that

Sounds amazing mate.Well done smile.gif

Hi mate! There are many killer ideas there! Some amazing riffs and killer shred sections. I also agree with Cosmin about the direction of the song. It is related with structure but not necessary to normal pop song structure. There is something lacking regarding the connection between parts and the overall composition that needs to be reviewed. I feel that it would be great if any melody appears more frequently and evolves through the song, or something that is suggested in the first part finally takes form in the end..
I came to mind the song "A change of seasons" by DT. It has lots of parts and weird structure but there is a component that finally connects everything... the same happens with conceptual albums like Metrolpolis 2, Operation mindcrime and The Wall.

Does it make sense?

I get what you're saying smile.gif idk I can't find an exact style that I like to play, and i find it hard to combine the ideas of all the genres of metal i like lol from example things like my dying bride to amon amarth lol

hahah that's not a bad thing! It's good to have many different influences. I'm not really talking about style, mostly about a leit motive. Bands like Mr Bungle used to combine lots of style in a song but there is always something that connects the overall idea. A song is like a story, if you read a story that describes lots of different situations and ends without showing any conclusion or connection between them you will think that the author will get back to finish it.

Listen to your favorite bands and write down the structure of their songs smile.gif See what you like and what you don't like and then pick up the favorite concepts and apply them into your compositions mate smile.gif I would start like this!

Do look in to it as it's one of the critical issues in getting a good mix.

You need to set the gainstage from the start before you attempt to do any other aspect of the mix. Get it wrong and the mix will be compromised from the start and chances are you will end up with a poorly balanced, noisy mix that may also suffer clipping. If you your mix builds noise as you add tracks and parts amd/or you find that you make relatively large changes to fader positions/track levels whilst mixing then you almost certainly have the gainstage wrong. Also, if you are doing the second then you will not be able to really focus on eq'ing as you are changing levels and therefore the perceived spectrum.

As for the mixing we still are working on it. You all know how huge and subjective is a mixing topic and how time taking is to esplain things + try to make someone else do this all alone to get best lesson from it.

Tony has a good point. Elno - will talk the gainstages thing in our thread to clear You the topic smile.gif

so it's pretty much making sure that you're not clipping once all the tracks are playing together? and making sure the input isn't too much to where it'll clip at at times?

No it's more than that.
