Original lesson: Blues: Beyond The Minor Pentatonic by Jacob Light

Ben Higgins
Hi man, this is a very good effort. You've got the right phrasing going on but your timing is a little wayward in places.

The blues is a tricky thing to play because the timing is often freetime and open to interpretation. My advice would be to try and hit the strong, noticeable notes of Jacob's phrases at the same time as he does.. or as close to it as you can. Playing along with Jacob's original track may help you with this.

The other aspects of your playing are sounding good. I like your tone here and your vibrato and bending are nice too. Keep up the good work!

2 things basicly - timming (Shuffle is very speciffic rhythm - it's more about to match the triplet feel than regular 8th notes). If might have been caused by the monitoring conditions - maybe the backing track was to quiet where you were recording. If not then You really need to focus on drums - especially on the hi-hat ...when You want to get into shuffle groove. Second thing - when You play licks like 0:10 (descending slide legato with no picking) you need to perfectly mute all other strings (noise would interupt those ringing notes) and there is aneed of a bit more pressure form the left hand fingers. We need to avoid loosing the sustain while we cross the fret (slide motion). Besides this you've got a nice tone match to the genre and you sound like you feel the dynamics of the blues, yet have to fix the rhythm/timming smile.gif

Hi Krakou, it's been a good decision to share your take here. We are already working on this one at the mentoring program but the other instructors input is very valuable here.

As I said previously, this is a good take, and it's ready to have that extra that can take your playing to a new level. How? Working on details. And the best way to do it at this point is getting the most from the instructor's playing and trying to emulate his way of managing groove/timing and dynamics. These two elements should be your next goals.

Keep on the good and hard work. wink.gif
