Gabriel Leopardi
Hi mate! Welcome to your thread for Gab's Army.

Here I'll help your with your guitar practice and routines to help you to achieve your goals as musician and to take your guitar playing to a new level.

You've shared some videos of you to have as reference HERE.

Before I create your suggested routine for this first week, I'd like to know:

1. How long have you been playing guitar?
2. What level do you think you're? based on GMC lessons level.
3. What do you know about theory?
4. Favorite styles and musicians.
5. How much time per day can you dedicate to guitar?

Hi Gab,

Well, I started to play guitar since 3 years.
My level is maybe 2-3 for me .
I'm weak about theory, I have no knowledge.
My favorite styles are Metal ( Power, Heavy, Death ), Hard Rock and Instrumental.
My favorite bands/musicians are Nevermore, Kreator, Rage, Gojira and Patrick Rondat.
I can play guitar 30 minutes to 2 hours per day.

See you soon.

Hi Gab,

After 3 days of work, here my take (with some mistakes) :

Gabriel Leopardi
Hi mate, great to see you working on this one. Let me mark some things to have in mind during the next days of practice:

- Timing on the only down strokes palm mute riffs.
- Tuning: Some power chords don't sound perfectly tuned and I also note that the solo has pitch issues. Be sure to tune your guitar correctly before recording. (also check if this is not an extra pressure issue)
- Bending: Your bends don't reach the correct pitch in the solo section.
- Vibrato: your vibrato could be more consistent. It tends to be weak.

Please keep on working and focus on the things listed.

Cheers!

Hi Gab,

Thank you for your feedback.
My guitar won't stay in tune, but I will tune before practicing everyday.
I think my bend don't reach the correct pitch because my guitar was out of tune.
I will make an effort on vibrato.

See you soon smile.gif

Ok. What's the problem with your guitar? Old strings? Is it calibrated?
n3m57
I don't know, I guess my strings are too old.
I bring my guitar at luthier 2 years ago and I have not changed the strings since this day.

Oh yes, that's too much. You need a change of strings mate.

I have actually Earnie Ball strings ( 10-46 regular slinky) on my guitar, I like to try Cobalt version.
Do you try this strings model ?
Gabriel Leopardi
No, I didn't. I use "skinny top heavy bottom" model.

Hi Gab,

I'm working actually on http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Millencolin-Style/
It reminds me Tony hawk pro skater biggrin.gif .

Here a take at 150 bpm

https://soundcloud.com/mathieu-nguyen-6/millencolin-style-150-bpm

I await delivery of my strings guitar.
I'm always working on that you said.
Gabriel Leopardi
Hi mate, this is on the right track. Your playing is consistent on this take and the only thing that I can mark is the tuning issue that appears a bit here too, but as you are waiting to solve it, there is nothing else to do. Just continue practicing to be able to increase speed of this lesson.

Keep on the good job.
n3m57
Hi,

I received my new strings, I will change tomorrow and I take this opportunity to clean the guitar neck .
Thank you for your feedback on this lesson, a little glad it looks good ( no timing issue, it's my fear tongue.gif )
I really enjoy playing this lesson, need more Punk rock like that.
Gabriel Leopardi
Great mate! Check my archive of lessons here, there is a lot of punk stuff there!
Gabriel Leopardi
hehe great! Let's start with with the easier one of that list, ok?

What is the most easier for you ?
There are 3 lessons with difficulty 3.
Sum 41 lesson looks good for my level. ( I guess)
Gabriel Leopardi
Let's go for it! Sum 41's lesson.

n3m57
so, my feedback on this lesson :
I can play at 150 bpm, but I have some troubles to get a clean palm mute on this section :

Do you put your right hand palm on all the strings ?

I mean, do you mute the high strings that you don't play with the fingers of your left hand and the low strings with your right hand palm ?
Or, do you mute all the strings with your right hand and stay focus on the string that you play ?

I hope that what i say is clear, it's difficult to explain my point of view.
Gabriel Leopardi
Hi mate,

I combine both hands to mute the strings that I'm not playing. I use the palm of my right hand to mute the lower strings, and I use mostly the first fingers of my left hand as a soft bare to mute the higher strings that I'm not playing. I also mute the closer lower string with the tip of my left hand finger that is pressing the fret played.

Does it make sense?

Hi Gab,

I did a take on Sum 41 lesson (150 bpm):

My palm mute isn't clean dry.gif
Need more practice.

I have changed the strings, what do you think about tuning ?
Gabriel Leopardi
Nice playing mate. This lesson obviously needs more days of practice and while you do it please have this tips in mind:

- Try to do the smaller movements possible. I notice that both your right hand picking and your left hand fingers are doing big movements which will make difficult to you to play this faster. Focus on smaller movements.

- You are not holding your pick with the tip of your thumb, it's a bit displaced. Please re-check the way you hold your pick.

- Adjust your palm muting.
n3m57
Ok Gab,
I will fix it.
That will be hard to get out of these bad habit mad.gif

I want to try LeCab 2 in Studio one 2 , but i can't find it in the vst folder.
I have 64 bits version of Studio one and LePou released only 32 bits version.

So I use NadIR as impulse loaders and Ampire as amp simulator, is it correct ?
Before, I used only Guitar Rig 5.
May be there is something to do for LeCab2 works ...

Anyway, the sound looks better ! smile.gif
Gabriel Leopardi
Hi mate, no, I couldn't find a 64 bits version of LeCab so it's ok if you use that cabinets plug in. There is another one called "Kefir" which is good but I don't know if there is a 64 bits version.

By the way, I also think that your tone is improving. Keep on experimenting.

n3m57
I think that's the best take for today :

https://soundcloud.com/mathieu-nguyen-6/sum41-lesson180bpm

I need your feedback please Gab rolleyes.gif
Gabriel Leopardi
Hi mate, I cannot see if you fixed the posture and movement issues that I've marked on previous video but I can say that this take sounds a bit better. The intro riff and the melody at 00:33 could sound more consistent, both have some timing issues as well as the only down strokes palm muted verse.

Please keep on practicing for 3/4 days and share a new video. Thank you!
n3m57
Hi Gab,

I will practice this week and polish Sum 41 lesson and upload a video this week end.
What do you think about the REC ?

I will have to wait before posting in REC board and keeping to post in our thread until I get your "green light".
I was too excited, sorry Gab.

I keep in mind what you said about right/left hand.
Thank you.
Gabriel Leopardi
It's ok to share takes at REC every time you want. You can receive other points of view and grades to monitor your progress so feel free to do it every time you want to do it. wink.gif

Maybe, I played 4-5 hours on Sum 41 lesson Saturday to polish my game at 180 bpm and the pain has begun Sunday when i'm waking up.
Today, I feel better.
No pain No gain lol biggrin.gif

Gabriel Leopardi
Good! Please take some minutes every day before practice to do some stretches and massages like this: https://youtu.be/1XsLRQFV7rY

Ok Gab,

It's the video you suggest in my routine
... but I confessed ... I did that the first days only . rolleyes.gif

Now, I understand by myself why is it so important wink.gif

Next week, I should bring my guitar at luthier, something is wrong with tuning.
Gabriel Leopardi
Yeah, it's very important to take care of your arms, shoulder and muscles. Now you know. biggrin.gif

Ok, it's always good to take our baby to the doctor.
n3m57
Hi Gab,

I didn't forget you.
I'm just working on my routine and I'm ready to start "Improvisation Course - Level 1".

Gabriel Leopardi
Hi mate! Great! Thanks for the update. The course starts soon, stay tuned! wink.gif

Hi mate, have you checked the second week guidelines? There are complementary lessons there...

Check it and let me know if that's what you needed.
