You pick up your guitar but you cant play anything right? mad.gif

At the beginning of the week I felt my playing had come on leaps and bounds, and like nothing could stop me!! Everything I played sounded pretty good as I was feeling pleased with my acheivments.

But the past 3 days, Ive barley been able to to play anything correctly!! I guessed work has been pretty exausting, and I feel pretty exausted mentally because of it.

My question is, do you any of you guys ever get days or weeks where you just sound "blah" laugh.gif smile.gif

Is it best to sometimes just put it aside and have a rest?

Yes, we all have those days. When that happens you really need to put down the guitar for a day or two and relax. During that time you will get motivated and you will be back to playing correctly.
Xranthoius
yep.... it frustrates me even more so I put the guitar down for a couple of hours or the rest of the day

Thanks for your input. I guess I try to stay so enthused about what im doing, because I enjoy it that much... I sometimes burn myself out !! smile.gif

No not really, my playing is always divine laugh.gif

I know what you mean but that usualy comes for me when I sit down to play wven though I really dont feel like it. Then playing lacks the spark.

And some times it takes quite a bit of playing before it takes off, like first 30 minutes blows then I get warm and play as the usual me. Not meaning I can play anything right, just the usual me laugh.gif

I know what you mean about the 30 minute thing, ive been there , many times!!

Im often pretty hard on myself if i dont do a full practice session daily, I think im going to rest up till i feel rejuvinated.

Im pretty sure its against the law to make your workers carry heavy loads up and down a long flight of stairs for an hour anway ohmy.gif laugh.gif

Good night GMC'ers, ZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

that day was yesterday sad.gif

Sometimes need to have a rest m8, you`ll find a couple of nights off and you`ll pick up the guitar and be suprised that you nail the licks straight away that you couldnt get anywhere near a couple of nights previous. wink.gif

i had it yesterday .. its very annoying .. i exactly know what you mean ..
Hemlok
Yes, it defanatly sucks. It usually only happens when playing electric. But I can usually go play acoustic guitar or harmonica so its not all bad.
Pavel
Don't worry about it mattacuk! It happens to me very often smile.gif This month i had the biggest pause in my practicing - didn't touch guitar for 2 weeks.
mattacuk
Thankyou all so much for your input - its very usefull so thanks again. I feel much better now! smile.gif I think tiredness is just about the only thing that stops me playing, so i guess it cannot be too bad smile.gif

I know those days sad.gif they make me really angry and I train even harder at those days.
VinceG
I get that feeling like every week. No big deal to me honestly. I never took practice seriously. I just screw around and come up with riffs on top of my head and try and play them.
shredmandan
As you can see above rolleyes.gif it happens to all of us all the time.I can get to a point where i just get pickey with sound and just stop playing for a few hours ,also when im playing a guitar that keeps going out of tune everytime you solo hard on it that makes me just want to through the thing out the window smile.gif So between myself and gear there's plenty of times i just loose that drive to enjoy my playing

Sometimes it helps to take a whole day off (or even 2) and when you pick it back up, you will feel like you progressed amazingly smile.gif
PacmanProductions
i hate when that happends!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

but what is very weird is that i can get really nice, high artifical harmonics when i get back from playin soccer.... tongue.gif unsure.gif

hel yeah! ... i could play the whole half of John Petrucci's Glasgow Kiss the 3 days ago, and yesterday and today i cant even play the iinntro!!! i cant play i any more! how anoying!
Owen
I need about 20 minutes to warm up, but I tend not to forget stuff.

I'd like to get better compositionally though, I write really boring riffs - riff rutts a lot and I run out of inspiration fast laugh.gif

Luckily I never feel that I have a bad day. The only thing I want to do all day for the rest of my life is to play guitar. But of course, I know what you mean, I've had those days aswell, but the past ~5 months I've never even been close to having a day like that. I doubt I will ever get sick of playing guitar, not even for one day. Sometimes its good to just take a couple of days break though.
mattacuk
I never get sick of playing guitar, quite the oppostiste!! Infact I want to play everyday ! smile.gif

Its just we all know life happens too, be that working hard all day, family life, or dealing with all the other stresses and strains life can throw at us. because of this we are not always on top form when it comes to practice... although i do try my best to be on form most of the time ! wink.gif smile.gif
Paul Coutts
yeah, I get these days all the time. Best thing to do in my opinion is learn something new. 'Cause if you suck at it, you'll understand cause it's new and you won't feel so bad biggrin.gif
But I ALWAYS want to play, so if I'm not playing, then I'm reading, watching, listening. or whatever.
Gerald
Even though I'm still in the early stages of playing, I get those days when I sit down and the things I'm currently working on are crapola or I can't seem to get something down that I think should be very easy.

What I try to remember though is that even the greats, (see the post about Kirk Hammet on the board not being able to get a riff down), has a day when they are not spot on. I usually spend the next day watching Gilbert videos or something and that inspires me to pick the axe up again. smile.gif
Toni Suominen
I definitely get those days sometime, my hands just won't work with me, it's like they have a mind of their own biggrin.gif sometimes it's just because my hands are frozen 'cause I just were outside, but a little bit of warm-up usually solves that smile.gif
Bogdan Radovic
Well I just returned from studio practice. It was one of these days..My hands get cold and can't warm up, right hand is slow and everything I play takes just too much effort to do it..

I had one of these days today, and actually, I'm glad I did. When I get these days, I always review my playing and go back to the basics and practice harder than usual, so each time I have one of these days, I progress much more then I do on normal days. I'm glad every day isn't like this, but when I get days like this, I use the opportunity to review my playing and take a few steps back. I suggest everybody who doesn't do so already to do that if they can. smile.gif
