anything i should keep in mind? i check if everything is okay with the frets, play it.. look if everything workd well.. ! or is there anything special thing to check? im not very comfortable with the edge pro trem. so if theres something special to know please tell me

Jsut a little warning: if you play it and it feels strange -> don't worry -> usually guitars at guitar-stores are not set-up! I bought a JEM which felt totally strange at store, but i got it home, did a setup and now it plays like butter

JEM is JEM -> nothing to be worried about! And if you try a whammy bar and it goes out f tune, it means the lockers were not locked

Nice guitar, tho I'm not sure about the 'handle'. I also didn't realise it had scooped frets where the neck is bolted to the body! The only guitarist I knew who had scooped frets was Ritchie Blackmore.

The handle is just a design trick and i like it a lot - really adds some touch to the guitar Last 4 frets are scalloped and there are a lot of guitars scalloped nowadays

What does the scalloped frets do that is benefical? I have wondered about this and since you mentioned it about the Jem I thought I would ask.

We had loads of topics on scalloped frets - it's a matter of preferences, but to me - it improves the access and feeling of high frets. It's easier to fret high frets if they are scalloped.

put new strings on. and is it possible to oil the neck with lemoil? i have some left from my old guitar?!

For floyd trems i know the "action" or distance between neck and strings is adjustable by two allen key screws either side of the whammy bar.

You may need to adjust the screws in the back of the guitar that determine the length of the springs (There should be instant access to these on the back of the guitar) if you find the tremolo is not parallel to the body of the guitar.

For example if the tremolo Sticks out then you need to tighten the screws in the back of the guitar accordingly until the tremolo becomes parallel to the body (when tuned to the correct pitch i.e EADGBE). Obviously do the reverse if the tremolo appears to be sinking into the body of the guitar.

You will definitely need to adjust this if you either change the gauge of the strings you are using or change the tuning you are using.

When changing strings I recommend changing each string individually rather than removing them all then replacing the strings, as you will be able to judge whether adjustments need to be made sooner ( because each time you change a string the trem should stay in the same position i.e parallel to the body of the guitar).

Also when I change strings I tune them to pitch as I go this means.......I change the first string I tune it up,

then change the second string tune that up and check the tuning of the first string again,

low E

then

Low E, A

then Low E, A, D

then

Low E, A, D, G........ and so on

Once you have Mastered changing strings in this way then move on to changing them all at once

with regard using lemon oil on the neck.... if the neck is either Rosewood or Ebony then this is a must!!!!! however if its a maple neck then do not use lemon oil.

hi sorry for my late answer but i had no internet for 1 week, because of a connection crash here in my hometown -.-
put new strings on my guitar and everything worked well despite i have a big problem with my G string.
when i play it theres always a strange sound like the string is too low and hits the fretboard.
but the height is ok and no string hits the board and also my tremolo is parallel to the body.
everything seems to be right adjusted and i even bought a third set of strings to check if the g string was not working right or so...
can you help me out? otherwise i have to go to the store again..

That's pretty strange to have only 1 string creating buzz or touching the fretboard...did you try rising the bridge a bit? I mean, check if the bridge is on the optimal height. The strings can go low but not TOO low and not TOO close to the fretboard

hey came from the store 1 hour ago.
the guy there told me this is absolutely normal something with bachsyndrom i dont actually know but all in all i can raise the bridge but then it gets a bit more difficult to play despite the buzzing would stop.
i guess some buzzing is okay, in fact it is normal like he told me, so im happy again :D:D

One thing you might not have noticed: if your guitar is unplugged and you hear the buzz it doesn't mean it's bad. If you plug it in the amp and play and hear a clean tone from the amp than the buzz doesn't make the difference.

So as long as you hear a good clean tone from the amp the fret/string buzz is ok. I have some of that buzz my self but i guess i got used to it. In the end - the electric guitar is created to be played with amp and not unplugged so as i said before - no buzz out of the amp? You have a good setting!

oh i have a very slight buzz when im plugged in... but i cant get rid of it unless i higher the strings ~ tremolo.
the guy in the store told me everything is alright and it he knows this phenomenom with the g string. o.O i hope this is true ..

There are other factors in setting up a guitar such as truss rod adjustment and so fourth. A professional would be able to do this quickly and not too expensively. I was lucky with my ibanez.. an rg370dx. It was shipped from Germany to where I live in the Uk. I was totally amazed when I took it out of the box, discarded all the wrappings, labels etc and found that it was crisp, in-tune!! I only needed to lower the bridge action slightly and it was fairly well set up.

I apologise for saying this.. What I since discovered, is that the day my guitar was delivered, my kid brother took it out of the box and had a go while I was in work.. He did a cool job of packing it all back thats all I can say
