Lick Information

Here's a lick that explores the sound of the G7 chord. It contains several passing tones to add tension and color to the original mixolydian scale.

Sound settings

Use the neck pickup and cut the high freqs with the tone knob if necessary.
I use the Mesa Boogie V-Twin preamp on the clean channel connected directly to the sound card and I'm adding a little bit of reverb and compression in Pro Tools.

Scales and Theory

The lick is built around the G Mixolydian scale. Notice that the non diatonic notes are on the up beat.
Transpose the lick into other octaves and other keys!
