Hey GMC'ers! In this lesson I was working with some techniques and unique metal riffs. In the first part we have the classic Lydian dominant scale shape of E with flat 2nd. If we mix that with some bends, the sound has an Egyptian feel, which I really enjoy.
The second riff has one of my favorite chords to work with, a diminished G#. It includes the root (G sharp) and the flat 5 (D). In the next riff, I worked in the same diminished chord/scale/arpeggio, but developed a different idea/area.
Tuning:
* One step down
* D - G - C - F - A - D
(From thick to thin string)
Key:
E 5
Chord Progression:
* E5 - G#/5- - Bb/5- - Fadd11+/B
Techniques:
* Riffs
* Bends
* Picking
* Palm Muting
* Arpeggios
Scales:
* B Lydian Dominant Flat 2
* G # Diminished
* G# Diminished Arpeggio
