Develop a strong left-hand-legato technique with this fantastic composition.
Hi and welcome to another Satriani cover. This time I tried to cover Satch's "Not of this Earth" composition which is the first track from his first full studio album that has the same name.
"Not of this Earth" came out in 1986, and the album became a classic. Satch still plays some of the songs from from this album live. This composition was the first in line where Satch used the so-called "Pitch axis" theory which consists of shifting modes underneath a
pedal tone (in this case E).
The first thing I liked about this composition is the unusual feel and the legato technique
which Satch uses a lot. When I first began to learn it, my aim was to learn this technique and to be able to play legato as smoth as possible.
Satch uses his legato licks on another string, starting from the A string but, for the sake of the technique, I learned it the way it is shown in the video.
The composition's structure is as follows:
Intro(Bar 1-8)
Chorus(Bar 9-12)
Solo(Bar 13-20)
Bridge(Bar21-24)
Solo-variation(Bar 25-28)
Chorus2(Bar 29-35)
Bridge(Bar 36-43)
Interlude (Bar 44-51)
Bridge2(Bar 52-59)
Outro-choruses(Bar 60-57)
Have fun!
