  • Hi GMC'ers! This time I made a metal riff using the E Lydian mode. As you may or may not know, the augmented 4th note of the scale (in this case, E) is characteristic of this mode. This means the note is played 1 fret forward compared to the conventional 4th.

    The special color the Lydian mode has is due to this augmented 4th note. You also have the augmented 2nd to cause a little tension and to create very interesting colors when you use it as a transition note.

    Tuning:
    * One Step Down
    * D - G - C - F - A - D

    Key:
    E Lydian

    Chords:
    E maj7

    Techniques:
