derper19th January 2012Very "Frusciente-esque" tone and rhythm!! Is it mostly compressor giving you that biting "Blood Sugar Sex Magik" era tone? Always wondered about his tone, and it seems like you've got it down here!!
Ivan Milenkovic19th January 2012Not sure what I used there, since it was on my old audio card (toneport+gearbox), but it's possible that there was some compression ![]()

Hello GMC, welcome to my new funk lesson! :)
In this lesson we will cover modern funk rhythm techniques. The lesson is structured around several examples that you can use as ideas and directions on how to develop your own funky playing. So, you can learn the parts, and by knowing the scale involved, try to create some variations of existing grooves.
Modern funk techniques resembles to classic funk techniques, but having a more modern approach means that more overdrive is used, and more aggressive degree of playing is applied. Tempos are also quicker and more straight.
You will find techniques like thumb playing and skank technique in this lesson. We will use these techniques mostly to play E7, E9 and E11 shapes, and some licks that will fill the gaps. Bare in mind that the lesson is mostly about rhythm, so finding a good groove and counting the 16th note strums with the picking hand is crucial if you want to stay in the bar properly.
Have fun! :)
