  • Today we'll study one of Nirvana's classic hits In Bloom. Although this song is quite easy as far as technique, it is a great example of well written song. Its structure is a very good example of what should be done. Let's take a look here:

    Intro
    Main riff
    Verse
    Chorus
    Intro
    Verse
    Chorus
    Intro
    Lead
    Chorus
    Intro

As far as chords go, we'll be using mostly power chords (Root and 5th). Notice that on the clean verses, we'll replace the power chords by barre chords.

The solo is played using mostly a Bb minor pentatonic. We can hear a few notes borrowed from the Dorian scale, however the lead was not written to be a good example of what should be done with proper music theory. You'll notice too that I tried to ad a few mistakes in the lead, some notes that should not be there. That is to reproduce what Kurt did. Cobain was not a tecghnical player and did not know much about theory. But he knew how to write good songs.

    Have fun!
