Welcome to the Dropped D Hard Rock riffing lesson!
Let's talk about riffing with the 6th string lowered down to D.
We are only going to use one finger in one fret over the last two or three strings. This alternate tuning makes it very easy to play power chords. These riffs couldn’t be played with standard tuning, or at least they would be very difficult. Many bands such as Sepultura, Children of bodom among many others use this tuning.
This could be a good warm up exercise because we are going to use a lot of pull offs over the last thick strings, so you are going to use a lot of energy in your fingers.
Make sure you mute the A string carefully to avoid any unwanted noise because We’re going to use the string skipping technique in the last part,
Pay attention to every beat. This is a rhythm lesson, the most important thing is to be as tight as possible with the drums,
I hope you enjoy this lesson and we’ll see you on the next one.
Daniel
