Hi GMCers, let's start our music expedition around the World...

First stop is Greece!

Greek music is something wonderful and I was always influenced by Greek and other Balkan music. Greek songs can be performed in a many ways: simple or abundant, which is what the Greek musicians themselves do, because every performer will give his own interpretation – Greek musicians enjoy improvising and they are great improvisers.Their scales and rhythmic "vocabulary" is a musical treasury.

A part of Greek music-Rembetico is not played using the standard Western scales. As a crossroads between Asia and West world,Greek music was influenced mainly by oriental elements so the groups of notes on the fretboard that are used during playing are known as the Turkish scales called makams.
The principal instruments of rembetiko are the bouzouki, baglama, and guitar.

Did you know this fact:
In the nineteen-fifties a young guitar player named Dick Dale became popular on the west coast
playing a staccato-style electric guitar that he learned from his uncle, a bouzouki player.
Dick Dale became the father of what is known as Surf Music and his style influenced the Ventures, the Beach Boys and many generations of musicians. The amplifier developed for Dick by his friend Leo Fender to withstand this different style of guitar playing became the most popular amps in the world and there are few electric guitar players who have not owned a Fender for performing or practicing.

OK, here we have this chord progression:
D,G,Gm,B7,Em/E,A7,D.

Basic scales are Happy (natural Major)and Sad (Minor):)try Lydian Diminished over Gm!
Tempo: 110 bpm,4/4

Playing in 3ds, root-third, or third-fifth tone. Trills and slides are very important in this style,as much as reverb and delay, just to create mystic feel and adventure !

Enjoy it !
