Hi guys, Joe Kataldo here, today's lesson is an advanced rock/metal study with powerful riffing and a nice shred solo in the end.

Drop Metal - D minor Dorian - 140 bpm

The musical study is divided in two main rhythm sections and a solo in the end:

  1. The first rhythm, is driving and pumping, using big fat open power chords, mixed with palm muting.
  2. The second rhythm, takes advantage of the drop D sixth string, to create a powerful riff that cycle back with a 2/4 bar in the end.
  3. The solo opens with some cool bendings, them pass to a fast repetitive sequences over a D minor pentatonic, slightly altered duo to the sixth string dropped to D, and ends on a final tapping lick, that build tensions while scaling up.

Learn it in small chunks, isolating most difficult parts, start slowly and build up speed without sacrifice accuracy.

Have fun & keep shredding. See you next lesson,

Joe Kataldo
