Alexiaden932nd May 2009Really cool ! I find your way of holding the pick a bit unique, it looks like you're holding it right at the end of your fingers, and not very firmly ![]()

Based on Gallop technique mostly. This cool resource is used by many bands in countless metal styles.
Hi there and welcome! This lesson is based on Gallop technique mostly. This cool resource is used by many bands in countless metal styles. From heavy classic used by bands like Iron Maiden at the top of list, to progressive bands.
Well, about the technique:
Suppose we are playing a gallop over G5 it looks like this.
1º -----------------------------------
2º -----------------------------------
3º -----------------------------------
4º -----------------------------------
5º --5--------------------------------
6º --3--3-3-3--3-3-3--3-3-3--3-3-3----
pick: D D U D D U D D U D D U D
So, always play this pattern (Down-up-Down Down-up-Down) to get the correct gallop sound. So, in this lesson I´ve included gallop and some notes as a bridge between the chords.
Take this lesson step by step and have fun!
Chords: included in every video.
Used scales: G minor, F major.
Bar: 4/4
Tune Down: 1/2 step
TEMPO: 150 bpm
As some of you know, I use a POD xt to rec all my lessons. In my board you´ll find my presets ;) On the other hand, here´re the settings for people who wants.
Amp model: based on Soldano Slo-100
Drive 9
Bass 4.9
Middle 5
Treble 6.8
Presence 7
Small room Reverb:
Predelay 0%
Decay 42 %
Tone 50%
Mix 43%
Remember: Same settings in other gear will produce a different sound, but, as we´ve talked at the forum, this could be cool for some members, so enjoy!
If you have any problems let me know. Take care. See you all around.
