  • Hi GMCers! Although the weather on the mediterranean coast is very pleasant in all seasons, we may be surprised now and then. One day, I was recording a lesson for Guitarmasterclass in a a peaceful atmosphere, when  a usual summer storm broke out.

The sky was getting dark while clouds started to crash, when I started to hear hair-raising thunders. Then one of those thunders shook one wall of  my house and I realized that my guitar had blackened like a burnt tree. I felt some electricity running all over my body, especially over my fingers. Until then I had been thinking about concepts such as “thumb”, “rasgueo” and “picados". However, at that very moment I started to think of concepts such as “distortion”, “muting”, “alternate picking” and “pinched harmonics”.

It was a very strange happening.

The lesson is a solo in A dorian key, in the style of hard rock/heavy guitar. The backing is a simple chord progression, with three chords (A5, D/F#, G5). This backing allows you to practise some pentatonic blues ideas, so try to find your own licks and may be mix they with licks of the lesson. Also  revise the dorian scale throughout the neck, that sounds great in this context, and is a good way to practise some fast licks with picking or legato.

For this lesson I´ve used Pod X3 live with this preset:

Amp:   Line 6 insane        Cab model: 4x12 Green 25s
    Drive 29   Bass 44       Middle 23    Treble 85  Presence 52
Stomp: Screamer -Drive 50   Gain 50    Tone 50
    Sine Chorus  - Depth 50   Mix 39
Stereo delay  -120 tap   Mix 28

You can find the guitar pro tablature and some backing tracks.

PD: Be careful with summer storms. See you!
