Hello friends of GMC! In this opportunity we will study the basic steps to create a great song! We all think of writing big songs, but, sometimes, we sit down in our studio or in front of the PC and the ideas never come! These are some of the steps that I use to do!
The tonality, the melody and the technique!
In this case we will use the minor scale of D#! (D#-F-F#-G#-A#-B-C#) The melody must be original; it depends also on the style that you want to create. I did a mix with a bit of progressive Rock, classic music and blues.
The combination of techniques is very important at the moment of composing; in this case we will use alternate picking, slides, bends and vibrato.
To create your own songs, do not try with complicated things. Always try with simple melodies, the scales that you know and the techniques that you use more.
The chords, the rhythm and the arrangements.
We know that the chords are important; always we must try to play the chords of the scale. In this lesson we will play the B and D#sus chords. On these chords we can apply other techniques, and create arrangements and change the rhythm! In this lesson we play the chords as melodic arpeggios!
The rhythm is ¾(time signature). The arrangements can be difficult or simple, in this case I use the octaves as arrangements, I use them very much, because they generate an interesting atmosphere!
If you add too many elaborated arrangements can complicate the composition, because in occasions these ruin the song!
The solos
This is the moment to express, to feel and to combine all the techniques that we know, but, be careful. The solo must be adapted for the song, if you are creating a metal song, the solo must be violent! If you are creating a power metal song, the solo should be very fast in almost all the occasions!
The idea of this lesson is that they have a notion or a guide to be able to begin to create! In the music we have freedom to create and to express!
Audio Settings: to record this lesson I have used the POD X3 live.
Analog Delay with modulation: 667ms Mix: 24% feedback: 70%
Solo Settings:
Stomp distortion screamer
Drive: 57 Gain:50% Tone: 50%
Nothing is impossible! Feel the music and God bless you!
