Stephane Lucarelli3rd April 2009Thanks guys!
hi Stephane I liked that lesson since it's on dm7 what other chords progression can I had to it
Stephane Lucarelli16th September 2009Hi man, thanks for the comment!
We are in the key of CMajor and D-7 is the second chord (Dorian mode).
All the licks works great on the following chords :
V7 > G7
VII > B-7b5
IV > FM7 (#11)
You could also try to play some licks over a II-7 / V7 / IM7 (D-7 / G7 / CM7) but take care when you resolve on the IM7 chord.
Hope it helps!
Cheers

In this lesson you'll find some ideas of jazz phrasing over a funk/groove backing track. A good way to develop and improve your musical vocabulary.
Hi GMC!
Here is some ideas of jazz phrasing over a funk/groove backing track. The backing is a Dm7 vamp and I used mostly a mix of D dorian mode, D blues/minor pentatonic scale, arpeggios and some chromatic passing note.
You could develop and improve your musical vocabulary by learning licks, studying solos or making solos transcriptions of guitar player, sax, trumpet etc... It's the best way of learning the Jazz articulation & vocabulary.
Hope these licks will help you to build your own individual language.
Some advices:
- Rhythm placement is very important.
- Try to make your own patterns.
- Transpose these ones in other keys.
- Listen to Jazz players...
...and of course, have fun !
Stephane
