Playing fast has always been one of the big quests for guitar players. But playing fast can become an obsession and become boring to the listener. In today's lesson, we'll try to create a nice improvisation with some speed bursts every once and a while.

The key is to start very relaxed with a comfortable alternate picking motion. Once you feel that your muscles are warmed up, try to interject some short fast licks into your playing, then come back to a more comfortable speed.

Remember to alternate pick every single note and work slowly to acquire a solid and precise technique. Every note you play should sound very clear and your attack should be done with confidence. Before you memorize the licks, make sure to spend time on the suggested patterns. You should be able to play them automatically without having to think about them. That will leave you more focus on the actual picking technique. We will work in the key of A Aeolian.

Practice well!
