Hi, GMC!
This is the 17th Study by Carcassi for the thumb and finger alternations.
This is a very common technique for the classical guitar. You can use this study for your picking exercise using a pick. Jumping strings with a pick is very difficult.
With the conventional thumb and finger technique, make sure your hand is kept in a steady position, especially when reaching for the lower strings with the thumb.
The smooth left hand shifting is also needed.
Let's give it a try!
