One thing, though: I'm not sure if this has been answered anywhere else, or if it's obvious and I don't see it, but what is the meaning of the letters and numbers after certain classical compositions, for example: Op. 26, BWV 846, &c... The numbers for classical compositions are simply the serial numbers for the works.
Op. stands for OPUS, latin word for WORK. Op # are usually numbered by the original publisher.
For Bach's music, BWV numbers are used, which were made by Bach scholar after Bach's death.
Since many classical pieces have common title, such as "Prelude", "Sonata" or "Suite", those numbers are handy to identify a specific piece.
