Hrvoje5th March 2007Aimc - hammer on at 2nd video is slapped! I have had a bit older strings on my bass so the difference may not be noticeable!

Well Kris, I think it all depends on the situation. If i remember correctly slapping is more of a advanced bass technique ? I think the more Complicated techniques should Have both Text Explaination and Video Explaination. And more self taught ones should just have Text.

I'm trying to hone my slapping skills because I've taught myself everything from the ground up. I dont have a bass amp and the amp I'm using is not all that great either.Its just a little practice amp. Would that greatly effect the sound and tones I'm trying to create when I play slap bass and when I'm practicing the lessons?

Finally - a slapping lesson. This is the first of many lessons in which I will show you how to master slapping.In this lesson I will use octaves to show you how to make easy, but interesting sounding lines.
When slapping the string you should be using your thumb, and for popping you should be using your index or/and middle finger. When slapping, try to keep your thumb parallel with string&neck, make a short, firm strike against the string. Make your movement from the wrist of your hand.
When bringing your thumb back off the string, do not move it too far from the string, try to make very short movements, so you can achieve more speed that way. If you start to feel pain in your fingers try to relax few minutes, it's not a good thing to hurt your skin, make your bass bloody and yourself unable to play few days. ;)
