  • Hello GMC!
-Today we are going to learn a slap bass tune inspired by Flea - the bass guitar player from the Red Hot Chili Peppers. This one will be focused on his early stuff. If you are not familar to slap bass playing technique be sure to check out my "Slap and Pop Grooving" and "Double Thumb Lesson" where you will find detailed instruction how to play slap bass.

-To achieve this fast and percussive sound to it you will be mostly using techniques like hammer-ons and left hand slapping.Flea tends to attack string with all his might in order to get that fast and hard slapping sound from it..

-All notes played here belong to the E mixolydian scale/mode except the note G which I added because it sounded nice.

    -Key: E
    -Tempo: 170 bpm
    -Time signature: 4/4
    -Difficulty: intermediate/advanced
    -Tuning: standard EADG

Equipment I used for getting this sound was: Peavey Cirrus bass with active soapbar pickups, equal mix of both of them with added bass and treble on onboard eq - then going to the nemesis(eden) amp with a 1x15" and slightly added bass and treble there (at 1 o'clock position).

Feel free to ask me any questions in the lesson feedback and in the forum.

Enjoy and have a lot of fun slapping this one!

    Cheers!
