Hello GMC! This is my first lesson in New 2008. So I wanted to give you something new, different AND maybe funny a bit. :)

It's Guitar Slap Lesson. This technique is common for Bass guitar but many guitar players use it on guitar so I tried it as well.

There are 2 main "moves" in here, SLAP which is use of thumb and POPPING with index finger.

It's bit tricky to do all Pops nicely cause distance between strings on el. guitar is not that wide as on bass guitar but anyhow, try it, it's fun indeed.:)

Groove is some sort of Shuffle Funk, tempo is 105bmp and it's in E Minor key but I used E Dorian, to be exact.

Let me know if you need any help and SLAP your axe!:)

Great integration on the bass fundamentals. I don't use it much on guitar, but it's definitely interesting.

Any plans for trying out more complex thumbing on guitar?

Am I the only one having troubles getting enough sound of of the slaps?
I have an american Strat and am using the neck PU, but the notes ring dead and not with very high output. Any suggestions?

Nope,it was Alex but still Mac,yeah laugh.gif

And few words about my tone here.
I used middle pickup for this one wink.gif
it's Stan Hinesley LaGrange
and I added some compressor too, well needed.
Perhaps your pickup isn't that high output
so try to add more gain/volume,if you're using amp?

Thanks, I will try that! And btw, fabulous lesson!

But does your guitar have a high action? I.e: are the strings "far" away from the fretboard?
And do you slap on the string only or on the string on the end of the fretboard?
Muris Varajic
post 6th January 2008

Instructor

Action on my guitar is "normal" I would say, nothing extreme indeed. smile.gif

And yeah,I slap string on last few frets,
making it to touch fretboard.
