Hello, GMC! Mauro Giuliani was one of the giant guitar heroes of 18-19th Century from Italy. He was a contemporary of Beethoven. It is said that Giuliani played the cello in the orchestra when Beethoven premiered his 7th Symphony in Vienna.

Giuliani is also known as the master of "theme and variations". Theme and variations are one of the popular form in classical music. This theme was not composed by Giuliani, but it was taken from a tune from Spain called "La Folia". Giuliani arranged the theme well suited for the guitar in two-part counterpoint. He made some variations, which will be introduced in the upcoming lessons.

The original tile of the piece is "Variations sur les Folies d'Espagne, op.45".

Enjoy!

Hi, everyone!

It is a very "classical guitaristic" arramgement by the Master Giuliani.
There are 5 or 6 variations on this theme to follow.
I have not played this piece before, so I am learning it as I prepare the lesson.
As I write some advice, it reminds me of what to watch for when practicing.
Teaching someone is like teaching myself.
