Hello GMC! This lesson is a rock solo that contains licks and melodies in the style of Zakk Wylde and RHCP One Hot Minute era. The backing track used is one that I recorded for one of Luciana's singing lessons. I was trying to do some singing improvisations and I created the first melody. Then I played it in guitars and I really liked followed by a rock improvisation in Minor Pentatonic in the style of Zakk Wylde.

I often compose my solos in this way. I find them more melodic and amazing to hear. For those that don’t know Zakk Wylde, he is a rock guitar player that plays in Ozzy’s band and in his own band called Black Label Society. One of his most used techniques is to play repetitive cross string licks over minor pentatonic scales and also double string licks. We will work on these techniques in this lesson.
The backing track is in D minor and has been recorded with an acoustic guitar using dropped D tuning.

Tempo: 100 bpm.

Bye.-

Gabriel.-

I love this solo Gabriel - to me this is absolute perfect use of pentatonics in a rock situation + that Zakk two-note-per-string lick is one of my personal favorites! biggrin.gif

Hey, I was wondering if I could get some advice. I would like to practice video 3 with a metronome but I can't figure out how to do it. I watched the metronome lesson and kind of get it but say I start at 80bpm...how many notes from video 3 do I play per beat?

Hey!! Thanks for the comments! I'm glad that you liked it! smile.gif

Rolls: You'll find the note values in the guitar pro file. Check it and tell me if you have any question.
White eagle: It means tied note.
Lefty: You can find double string bend licks in video 2 and 4 and two-note-per-string repetitive licks in video 3.

Hi....one of my favourite lessons. smile.gif

Is it possible that 2 notes are missing in the tablature near the end for video #3? I follow every note, and always get a little behind in the end.

Hey Gilmore, you are right, the tab at the end of video #3 is missing a few notes. The end of the first bar should have the following after the last note (13) :

10-13-10---------|
-----------13-10-|
-----------------|
-----------------|
-----------------|
-----------------|

Hope that lines up after I post this. Anyways, the second bar has all of the correct notes. I was practicing it and finding the same thing as you he he. But if you check the Guitar Pro tab it is perfect smile.gif

on the fast lick alternating between frets 13 and 10, youre not barring your first finger on the strign 1,2 fret 10 are you? looks like youre moving it back and forth, am i correct?

Fenman, he's not barring. You can see it in the video. It's not possible to play it with a barre. I just tried it with my Noise Suppressor set at max and it still sounds awful :]
In this line of thoughts it's very important to mute the strings with your right hand(in this lesson in the beginning of part4). Kris explains it great in one free lesson in the ultimate-guitar.com ;]

Hope i helped.

great lesson gabriel ,great melody
one thing though
is there any particular reason you use a 7 note ber beat pattern as it says in the guitar pro file. is it just to give a different rythm or just to fit into one bar?

I had a question on the flurry of notes starting on the 11th measure. I can get up to the example speed, but I'm having trouble getting up to tempo of the backing track. Is there a way to increase speed to break the barrier? A metronome maybe?
Gabriel Leopardi

yes, using the metronome is a great choice to increase your speed. wink.gif

Holy cow, I see due to the guitar pro file you play 7 notes per beat120pm in this one section !That is damn fast! This Zakk Wylde technique sounds awesome!Hope I will ever reach it to play that fast. I just practising to play TRIPLETS with 120pm with the metronome !This lesson is a good ambition to keep practising thanks !

Really nice. I just subscribed and found this right away. One Hot Minute gets a lot of slack, but there's no denying Dave Navarro has a great sound. And Zakk's one of my favourites. Great guitarists both, and a superb lesson! Can't do it 1:1 yet though. Good thing Guitar Pro can slows things down for ye. Cheers.
