In this first Flamenco lesson at GMC, Al Christie shows you how to play a Farruca. It is a Gypsy dance in 2/4 time consisting of heel work, fast double turns and falls - but we will go for the guitar part though!

This lesson illustrates typical chords and techniques such as fingerpicking, rasqueados, rasqueados followed by thumb etc. Spoken instruction are given in the videos. Enjoy and stay tuned for more Flamenco!

Rasgueado is a flamenco technique that I am not accustomed to. This will take quite some time to work up to tempo, at which it sounds astonishing.

I have added a couple of backing rhythm tracks, you neeed to practise reeeeally slow before attempting to play with a rhythm track, but it gives you something to work with later, because timing is all important in Flamenco.

you can play this piece easily without the capo, the tab is the same. Its just a very typical flamenco thing, where you have a brighter sound for the rasgueados. All the singers sing if different keys, so if you have the capo, you can keep the same open chords.

Kris,

I don't know who/what is more beautiful. Luciana or this music. I have tears in my eyes (and not from too much garlic either).

hi Al,
as yu see, everything comes in time,
for being honest, I don't get the rasquados part, since you didn't do a slow video for the part of the piece with rasquados. Indeed your video about the technics itself is good, but when I want to apply it and play the piece, the video 1 is to fast for getting it.

Thank you ang even though, good job!!
