Muris, those are some serious chops. Very fluid and effortless. Love the groove! Btw, how many years/hours does it take to acquire chops like that?

Thanks Boris smile.gif

This is really hard to answer...it comes with the time for sure.
I've never listened to funk that much, but I've played it a lot.
As you said,it IS all about groove.
When you feel it,licks are just all around you smile.gif

Should you use some quick double-stops to get the jazzy/funky feel ?

John, those licks you mentioned are great for this kind of groove.
Jazzy,funk,blues,fusion...borders are way too small.
Cheers!

Muris, the more I watch the video, the more I'm convinced its all about the right hand. Could you provide some guidance? Obviously the hand has to be relaxed. But as far as specifics, I noticed your not using the light pick, what pick, and gauge are you using for this stile playing? Any insight you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Boris

What pedals are you using!?!?!?!?!
Muris Varajic
post 12th August 2007

Instructor

Thanks Boris smile.gif

Yeah, when I started to record it I ran out of bateries for the light pick so I grabbed Dunlop 2 mm.
I prefer fat picks,no matter which style I'm playing.
And you're right,it's all about right hand,it needs to be fully relaxed.
Also, important is to feel this groove which is actually 6 of 16th notes in one beat.
Now,just play 1st,3rd,4th and 6th of them with down,up,down,up,down,up etc
It'll give you right motion for grooves and rhythm chops like in this lesson.

Tell me if you need anything else smile.gif

Cheers

Great lesson, love the style. Could you let me know how to set up my amp and guitar to get the sound you have? Cheers
Muris Varajic
post 30th March 2008

Instructor

Thanks and welcome to GMC. smile.gif

In short lines,it's simple clean sound, those pickups are humbuckers
but I used neck pickup splitted which is almost the same as single coil.
As for EQs,boost highs a little,cut lows,mids are basicly flat,depends of guitar/amp.

This lesson is pure fun! I totally enjoy it. It's hard to make it flow (=get the groove?), but I bet it's simply down to practice, practice, practice. As always. Thanks a lot for this one.
