Welcome to Heavy Metal For Beginners lesson number 2!

Today we'll work on further improvement of your riffing skills and will include stuff like 9th chord, chords transitions using simple licks, more power chords and other cool stuff for riffing. Also we will start practicing pinky playing straight away so this series of lessons will help you to dive into more serious guitar playing.

Enjoy watching the main piece, than grab your axe and let's start learning this lesson! :)

Great one!
Maybe you could make Heavy Metal Solo for beginners for this riff.

I see you use down&up strokes on part 4. isn´t it more "metal/heavier" to just use down strokes?

But, yes.. it´s harder to do it down&up so I guess it´s good for practice;)

Thanks for a great lesson:D

There is no such thing as more metal or less metal. There is the thing which goes: can you play it or not? That's the only thing that matters. smile.gif

Can you tell Petrucci he is less metal than somebody else because he plays riffs with alternate picking? I don't think so! wink.gif

Rock on Dude ! It would be neat if you did something like this ( Metal or Shred Based ) but did the three level solo type thing like Marcus does, Nice lesson! biggrin.gif

What I ment with more "metal/heavy" was just the sound difference of a up or down stroke. Not the picking style;)

I just think 2 downstrokes sounds heavier than down/up stroke. Cause there is something called a more metal/heavier sound, right?wink.gif

But I argee with you on your anwer stylewise:)

Thanx

I wouldn't agree that downstrokes are neccessarely heavier. Take a look at Rusty Cooley's work with Outworld - heavy as hell and still he doesn't play only downstrokes.

does it matter if i use my ring finger and bar the chords instead of using my long finger and ring finger together... also its easier and faster for me to use my 1st finger and my ring finger and pinky on the stretches from 5 to 7 to 9.. you use your long finger.. just wondering if it matters or im making some bad habits..
