   Yo GMC!

Here's another riff from one of my songs. It's what many people might call a "breakdown" as there is heavy groove riffage accompanied with "silence" in between the notes. There's a lot of intense picking in this one, so practice slowly.

Also, strongly observe my left hand throughout the lesson and how it mutes the strings after different parts. It's extremely important to mute the strings with your left hand in order to get that "tight" sound that this style demands.

NOTE: This lesson is in Drop D Tuning. (DADGBE)

Enjoy!

Okay so im wondering how you'd play these chords. Would you palm mute the d string and strum or do you just pick g and a at the same time.......?

Hey guys! Glad you like the lesson! What can I say, I'm a metalhead.

stratman33, when playing octave chords, it's best if you can mute all of the strings with your fret-hand index finger. So basically your index will put pressure on the A string note in this case, but the tip of your index should mute the Low E string, and your index should also rest on all the other strings to mute them. That way you can strum all the strings, but only those 2 octave notes will sound.

Hope that helps!

Sean awesome lesson.I just wanted to add i just checked out your web site at infinateguitar.com and i love pending closure. It really showed me how well of a guitar player you are.I love how you play heavy with the double picking and your not just doing power chords.I really have alot more respect for you as a musician and i look forward to checking out more of your stuff!

ok for some reason I'm still having problems with the octave chords.
Do you use your middle finger to mute the string inbetween? If so, how so? I always seem to get some kind of a ringing note when I try to play :[

Great song, and great lesson. Only problem is on the backing track the track starts as soon as you click, its really hard to try and click on the backing to start it then hurry up and play the 777-888 in time to keep up with the song. If you could add a pause or a countdown in the beginning of the backing tracks it would really help.
