Vibrato is a playing technique which produces regular oscillating change of pitch. It adds expression and a special feel to the note. The vibrato effect depends on pitch variation (the extent of the vibration or change in pitch) and speed (the rate of the vibration or change in pitch). One way of doing vibrato is by bending the string being played in an upward and downward motion.
