Hello GMC! I wrote this solo using the C phrygian scale. The chord progression is quite simple: Cm7 - Db7M

This lesson sounds a little fusion to me. If you are looking for some new phrasing and a different sound, I think this lesson can be useful to you.

You find different guitar techniques here: alternate picking, slides, string skipping, vibrato.

The settings for the Korg Pandora are here.

Key: C minor
Time signature: 4/4
Tempo: 140 bpm

Enjoy!

Yes, very Fusion sounding - Phrygian doesn't get enough use, that is a cool sounding vibe there smile.gif

Really original lesson, learning it right now.

Why is there like a booming sound when you hit the first note in phrase, particularly video 5 and 6? =

So if I understand correctly you just play a G# scale under C chords?

So yea one more thing, I'm practicing phrasing a lot lately so I've been studying solos and stuff. I notice in video one, the note you vibrato is G#, which is not even in the Cm7 chord, why does it fit?

I really love the way this sounds Jerry! And Gerardo is right - your phrasing is excellent.

I also really love the fact you supplied a link to the Pandora settings smile.gif

shellshock1911: I think you're talking about the raking. I use this technique sometimes with the high strings because I like very much the sound.
Yes, the video 1 ends with a Ab note, but if you see the complete tab or the GP file you can notice that the backing track changes to the DbM7 chord immediately. So you can consider this Ab note as a note over the DbM7 chord, just a little anticipated.

maxwelldewitte: A kind of... Phrygian Mode is the 3rd of the major scale. So C phrygian has the same notes of the Ab major scale, starting from C.
