Great Lesson Gabriel, thats much better than the shredd stuff!
Ryan2nd June 2007Very nice
The Uncreator2nd June 2007Great lesson with some awesome melody, never been to much into Frusciante, but now that i hear this, ill look into him more
lefthandman2nd June 2007awesome lesson Gabriel! RHCP is one of my favorite bands and Frusciante is one of my favorite guitarists
Layzer2nd June 2007Hi Gabriel....great lesson....do you like his solo work more than RHCP?
David OToole2nd June 2007That sounds great Gabriel - sweet. Very Chili's! David
I got emetions from this solo, Great Work!!
stratman332nd June 2007that sounded exactly like him. as usual, great job Gabe.
ace_frehely2nd June 2007nice, now i can play it to my girlfriend. just kinning.
JVM3rd June 2007Yeah that definitely sounded exactly like a frusciante solo! I'll be learning this one, thanks gabe.
Gustavo3rd June 2007gracias gabi
jaja
siempre vienen bien diferetens estilos ![]()
Gustavo3rd June 2007es parecido a la de califorication o me parece?
JVM3rd June 2007pareció ser algo semejante a Scar Tissue a mí, Gustavo... tan si, californiacation
Gabriel Leopardi3rd June 2007Thank you guys!!! I'm happy to read your nice words about this lesson!
Hi Layzer: RHCP is also great. I could talk hours about RHCP songs, jams and Flea's bass lines. But this lesson is a guitar lesson about John Frusciante.
Gustavo: Gracias por el comentario! El solo esta obviamente inspirado en ese tema y en otros de ese mismo disco. Tiene para mi los mejores solos que compuso en su carrera.
Eat-Sleep-andJam3rd June 2007i love you
thanks alot- john
beebo3rd June 2007congrats!
bmh11093rd June 2007great lesson yet again! this is just what i needed.
on a side note thanks for starting to include the extended versions of the backing tracks, its really helpful and fun to play the solo once though then improvise around after it.
Layzer3rd June 2007he has a few solo albums....im sure you have checked them out....if you havent i suggest you do!!!
Gabriel Leopardi4th June 2007Thanks Layzer! I will listen this albums. I have listened to one of them a time ago and I remember it as a rare album.
Fanman5th June 2007john's solo stuff is really somethign sweet. anyone who likes this solo a lot im sure would really enjoy and benefit from his solo albums, good music. He has four that i know of: curtains, shadows collide with people, the will to death, and to record on only water for ten days. To record on only water for ten days is in my opinion his best one, if youve heard any of his stuff odds are theyre his more well known stuff and from that album but theyre all great, check em out!
JVM5th June 2007Yeah, I have water, inside of emptiness (you missed that one!) and shadows collide with people. Pretty good. John is actually a very good singer, perhaps better than kiedis, but kiedis's style works much better for the chili peppers. But you probably already knew that if you've heard any of their live stuff, john has quite a voice.
Gabriel Leopardi5th June 2007Yes! I will try to get some of his cds! I think that he makes amazing backing vocals in RHCP so he could be a very good singer.
Thanks guys!
JVM: Who is the guitar player in your picture? Is he the green day's singer?
lliber5th June 2007really enjoying this and it is great to have the chord progressions to strum along to it is really helping me to get my rythm something like... more of this please
steve
Josiah6th June 2007FANTASTIC!
Gabriel, more lessons like this one, please!
sillyman6th June 2007hey gabriel havnt looked into the lesson yet but judging by the first video its gna be great. Is there any particular method or setting u use to get such a similar tone to frusciante
Gabriel Leopardi7th June 2007sillyman: You can find the secrets inside this lesson. There are a lot of things.. the same kind of licks, the scale choices, the chord progression, the techniques (vibrato & bending) and the feeling. The sound settings are simple. Gibson les paul (frettboard pick up) + clean channel of my marshall amp.
Gabriel Leopardi8th June 2007hey... I forgot to tell you one thing... great pic sillyman!!
sillyman10th June 2007thanx man chacking it out now
sillyman10th June 2007wat does da (12) in no. three mean
Gabriel Leopardi10th June 2007It means that when you bend in 10th fret you have to reach the pitch of 12th fret.
Lurgen11th June 2007Nothing quite beats the feeling of cruising through the entire piece to the backing track without missing a note for the first time.
Great work Gabriel, this lesson just made my day ![]()
julz_12215th June 2007hey dude thanks finally ive been waiting so long for this lesson great job ![]()
Ibanex23rd June 2007How could I oversee this lesson for such a long time. Great Lesson.

PacmanProductions14th July 2007lol..just learned it in 15 mins...![]()
Gabriel Leopardi15th July 2007Yeah!! it's very easy! John plays easy and amazing stuff all the time. You can listen to some Cirse's songs in http://www.purevolume.com/cirse

Phoenix
PacmanProductions16th July 2007THANKS GABRIEL!
Travelin' Man18th July 2007Sounds like how I play when Im practicing my scales...slow and methodic so I am hitting the right notes
RedBuell10th August 2007Okee this is sweet, i'm a sort of new beginner and here to learn and start of right.
I've been breaking my head about the backing tracks. Chords progression as descibed is Am-F-G-Am-G but if i play along with the backing i play Am-F-Am-F-Am-F it seems to sound better in line with the backing then the Am-G what is describebd in the chord progression or do i have terrible ears....
Mack965819th August 2007GREAT LESSON GABE! MY FIRST ONE ON GMC, WELL PLANNED OUT AND EASY TO UNDERSTAND, IT ONLY TOOK ME 40 MINS TO LEARN AND I HAVENT BEEN PLAYING LONG, NICE ONE!!!
Unleash-The-Shred25th August 2007What settingson your amp did you use to get that tone?
NightFlight1st September 2007Hi Gabriel! I'm a new member here. Excellent work on the lesson. Nicely done! This is great practice for tone and vibrato. I was playing this with the "Spacy Clean" patch on my GT-6 (adds a little delay, chorus, and reverb). Combine that with the fretboard humbucker on a Les Paul and you can lose yourself in this jam for hours. Again, very nicely done. Looking forward to seeing more of your lessons.
Elios882nd September 2007much beautiful one! excused, the guitar for tab is mistaken… is possible? excused my English but I have used a translator…
Proph3rd September 2007Nice Lesson but i think it isnt just 2 of 10 =D
SRV_is_GOD8th September 2007Hi-
I really like this lesson and the style of playing. I am not hearing the G shown in the tab when you play the song in the vid. I can hear the Am, the F, the D and the C, but the first section sounds like it alternates between Am and F and the G doesn't sound right when I add it in. Can you elaborate?
SnakeEyes218th September 2007Just wanted to say wow this is an incredible lesson as a begginer I thought this would be impossible but you did a great job teaching it thank you very much for remotivating me into a world I didn't think I was good enough to explore.
Nicholas26th September 2007I really like this lesson, it's the first one I've attempted.
Just one question, Gabriel - when you perform vibrato, what is it exactly that you do with your fingers?
For eg. when performing vibrato on the B string with the middle finger, at the same time you seem to place the other two fingers on the strings D and G.
Can you pls clarify?
Thks!
Loki29th September 2007This is a totally awesome piece Gabriel! I was suprised how quickly I could learn such an amazing song! I have to work on my string bending tho... I sometimes just cheat and slide haha (works too
)
As a beginner, I thank you whole heartedly for releasing such a friendly and wonderful lesson. It has made me seriously realize that "advanced" technique is secondary to good taste and knowledge of the basics. I'm going to focus hard on my theory from here.
blackjack3rd October 2007outstanding as always gabriel.
maes12th October 2007it's easy and fun to learn how to play. very nice sound! thanks.
maes12th October 2007hey gabriel, also what settings did you use on your amp to get that tone?

moez50721st October 2007hi everyone!! i am a newcomer at GMC .I have been learning and playing the guitar for 7 months now. I think GMC is a great place to be!! This is my first lesson here and it is awesome! Thanks a lot Gabriel for the superb work! However I need some help...what is the meaning of these terms:
| / slide up
| slide down
| h hammer-on
| p pull-off
| ~ vibrato
| b bend
| rb reverse bend
| mb micro bend
i know them vaguely but i want to be sure
or can someone guide me to a lesson on this website that will help me learn these techniques?? :-) thanks in advance
moez50721st October 2007hi again
how can i listen to the backing tracks...whenever i click on the link next to the video display i arrive at the very first video of the lesson...
maes28th October 2007welcome moez507, try going to the 101 lessons. there might be some stuff there.
Constie3rd November 2007Thanks. I like melodic solos much better than shredding, this one is awesome!! ![]()
moez5076th November 2007thanks maes :-)
steelavenger11th November 2007Hi. I had trouble interpreting the chords shown for this lesson. Listening to the backing track I'm sure it is Am F Am F Am F Am F then D F C G and back to Am F etc again. I hope that helps anyone.
Beautiful lesson Gabriel. Thanks!
Luft8th December 2007Great lesson, well explained and a nice scale to improvise with the backing track. Im new here and Gabriel lessons were important for me to join the site. Nice job Gabriel

Joey van den bosch9th December 2007I love it, thank you.
Tomy Jeon24th December 2007You're guitar tone is so good.
suneg21st January 2008Fantastic. I just managed to play my first improvised guitar solo using the licks you showed, along with stuff I just came up with along the way! Now I know why I spent time on Kristoffers Scales lesson :-)

Milesy19th March 2008Just joined and this was the first lesson I checked out. It was an excellent choice. Well done Gabrielle - can you do some more of JF's style. It's quality.
Milesy19th March 2008oops sorry - Gabriel
n1scottyboy23rd March 2008i spent a couple of hours learning this, never used backing tracks before so when i learned this it felt fantastic thanx a bunch .
Carlos Carrillo31st March 2008great lesson Gaby!!!!!!
StM5th April 2008fantastic! I love that lesson... simple but great!
StM5th April 2008fantastic! I love that lesson... simple but great!
CodyPaul26th April 2008Geez I feel bad, I love this lesson (its my first one) but I've been working on it for a week or so and everyone else is doing it in 15 minutes. Oh well at least I'm learning...
Anyway on to the actual question. I'm doing good on this except for the bends. I don't seem to be able to bend up far enough to get the right tone and returning the bend it sounds like a dead note. Anyone have any clues that would help?
Gabriel Leopardi26th April 2008yes, it's a bit difficult in the begining. I suggest you to search in GMC a lesson dedicated exclusively to bends to practice this technique. There is no secret, practice hard to make your fingers stronger. ![]()
CodyPaul26th April 2008Oh man, I don't believe it. I knew when I wrote that question someone was going to come back with "practice, practice, practice" I was even thinking of the best way to come back with "no, thats how you get to Carneige Hall" (I'm not the only one to remember that joke am I?")
Nevertheless I hadn't thought of searching for a specific lesson on bending. I'm making great use of the site huh... Anyway looked though several lessons and David Wallman's Micro Bends Lesson really helped. Especially his lecture (explanation, whatever you want to call lesson 1 in that lesson)
I really appreciate you being patient with me and the help everyone has offered.
Tinette26th April 2008Hi Gabriel, I'm working on your very nice lesson, but I can't understand this passage: 7b(8)7rb-5
I play a classic guitar and even if it seems to me that I'm doing what I'm supposed to do it sound different from you. Too much different imho…
Can you explain it a little more please?
Thanks
Gabriel Leopardi27th April 2008Hi Tinette! It means that you bend in 7 trying to get the sound of fret 8 and then you do a reverse bend getting the 7 fret sound again. Does it make sense?
Nocebo28th April 2008I nailed it after about an hour of hard work
Really great beginners stuff! So much feeling.
Btw, I have some problems hitting the right note when bending. Got any tips?
Nick32515th June 2008simple but awesome
Gitarrero24th June 2008Thanks for the extended backing track, it's fun to improvise around the solo one just learned. It's a thing to impress your friends with! :-)
Scorpiotic25th June 2008Beautiful ![]()
Sjoerdisch7th September 2008In which scale do you play the solo? I like it very much.
rock146th October 2008Nice lesson but I can not do this part:
B|-----------10b(12)-10rb---|
kaznie_NL2nd January 2009B|-----------10b(12)-10rb---|
put three fingers in line on the B string and bend the note on the tenth fret untill you get the sound of the 12th!
Daniel Realpe26th April 2010Simple sometimes can be awesome!
bill9531st March 2011thanks for the awsome lesson Gabriel! really simple and helpful for a beginner!!
Gabriel Leopardi19th July 2011Thanks guys! The scale used is A minor.
