jammer9125th October 2007Muris im getting this down. Can you please make a series of paul gilbert lesson? (too great to be satisfied with one).
Im lick hungry (metal-gear user, dont get any ideas:)
Muris Varajic25th October 2007I just promised the same in my sub-board and here it is again,
will do more of PG lessons,no worries!! ![]()
JOhn25th October 2007thanks muris i really enjoyed this one. Can you do a more racer x styled one?
Kristofer Dahl25th October 2007Oh my, that string skipping thing in the beginning of part 3 three is soo cool! Learning it now! ![]()
mattacuk25th October 2007Im really impressed with the attention to detail here. I like the use of index, ring and pinky just like paul does!
dimeisgod25th October 2007muris,
what brand guitar is that?
my guitar teacher here in Israel has a custom guitar "factory" (the guitars are handmade) and my guitar looks almost exactly like yours.. except the pickups...
Juan M. Valero26th October 2007Just AMAZING !!!!! love this lesson ![]()
Muris Varajic26th October 2007Thanks to all!! ![]()
This guitar is handmade too, from custom shop MKGuitars,Bosnia.

![]()
Zephyr30th October 2007This is amazing, Muris! I'm not that huge a fan of Gilbert, but these licks are great, I will dafenately (I'm running out of misspellings!) be putting these to use!
Pablo Vazquez7th November 2007Amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!
peterorg5411th November 2007how's going with the second Paul Gilbert lesson, Mr.Varajic ? ![]()
Muris Varajic11th November 2007Will be there soon Mr. Peter ![]()
Eat-Sleep-andJam12th November 2007Muris this is great. I got a question . For the second video in where the speed lick begins , what is your thumb postion at that point ? I kinf of angle my fingers and my thumb a little bit, Is that correct ?
- John
Muris Varajic12th November 2007My thumb is almost at the top but many players would have it around middle in same situation.
It's sort of a stretch but looks like I have a mile long fingers or som . ![]()
Eat-Sleep-andJam13th November 2007Now that I notice it you do have big fingers
Thanks for the help ![]()
Muris Varajic13th November 2007Can't help myself,you're welcome tho!! ![]()
peterorg5413th November 2007muris, any tips for doing pinch harmonics?
ur pinching it with ur pick and touch it with side of ur thumb.. right ?
well, im practicing but it's hard to get a loud note of pinch harmonics..
so.. any tips.. ?
Muris Varajic13th November 2007I use side of thumb AND the pick.
Pick hits string while side of the thumb slightly touches string.
Adding more distortion and high EQ shall help as well. ![]()
peterorg5413th November 2007i dont get it..
u slightly thouch the string first, and then hit the string..?
is that what u meant ??
how is that possible.. ???
if i touch the string first, then i cant possibly hit the string... ![]()
Andrew Cockburn13th November 2007
peterorg5413th November 2007im still guite not sure what ur trying to show..
but i got it by my own way..
(to get loud note)
peterorg5413th November 2007oops quite * ![]()
peterorg5413th November 2007oh.. 'my way' was what u were trying to show me.. ![]()
Muris Varajic13th November 2007Andrew has larger vocabulary than I do
Brushing is much better than touching.
Those are actually 2 actions in 1,
brushing with thumb and hitting the string with the pick.
Andrew Cockburn13th November 2007
WTN14th November 2007Muris,
Lesson 3, tab, notes 9 and 10 show the two D's on fret 10 low E string, but I see you play the open D which is easier. We are watching like a hawk.
Muris Varajic14th November 2007Hmm,I surely play D twice on low E with the thumb,
has much more bass that way and easier to palm mute for sure. ![]()
WTN15th November 2007My fault - I was watching the fingers and not paying attention to that sneaky thumb. Great stuff.
Muris Varajic15th November 2007No problem,it's hidden card,sort of joker ![]()
WTN15th November 2007Myself, like others, have problems with the thumb stuff - maybe depends on type of neck - anyway in this key one can hit the D open string for these 2 notes. Whatever works....
Muris Varajic15th November 2007Yeah, it works note wise but not tone wise. ![]()
D string is a lot more thiner than low E,lacking of bass.
That's why I used it like this. ![]()
WTN15th November 2007OK - lesson 4 - first tab line - there are 6 too many notes - the 10p 9p 7 10p 9p 7 at the end.
Muris Varajic15th November 2007
Yeah,there are,my mistake.
Anyhow,more is better than less,right?
Thanks for noticing tho!! ![]()
WTN15th November 2007Oh boy - it's the slowed down version that's wrong - should have four parts - but only three -so the tab is right. I know you do this on purpose just to mess with us.
Muris Varajic15th November 2007
No purpose, trust me,guess I was bit too tired to count well.
Tab is fine,I add extra 6 notes.
Gonna keep them safe and put in next lesson, just looking for the right spot.
![]()
WTN15th November 2007I hope I am not too critical - I mostly play by ear - but I do read the tab to make sure I am on track - and this confused me a bit.
Muris Varajic15th November 2007Ohh,no problem at all.
There's already a thread about that video at my sub-board.
And I'm glad that you're working on the lesson,
being able to notice it is the best prove for that!! ![]()
peterorg5415th November 2007in video4, ru actually pulling off with ur pinkie and ring finger.. ???
OMG..
that's so hard...
it's really hard to pull off with the pinkie..
any tips.. ? or just practice.. ![]()
Muris Varajic16th November 2007Hi Peter ![]()
Yeah, those are pull-offs with using both pinky and ring finger.
Pinky is the weakest of all and practicing this will surely gives it more power
and stronger action.
You can avoid it by using ring and middle fingers for first pull-offs
but I suggest to try it my way, will be worthing. ![]()
Paul Coutts16th November 2007SICK solo, Muris, that's the stuff I want to learn, cheers!
Muris Varajic16th November 2007Thanks Paul,have fun with it!!! ![]()
WTN17th November 2007Muris,
On the Guitar you are using for this lesson, what model of Stan's pickups are you using for the bridge position. I would say it's either a Zen or Scorpion, but could be wrong.
Muris Varajic17th November 2007It's Rogue,really high output. ![]()
peterorg5419th November 2007muris, im practicing. but i need some help or some tips in part 4, (video4)
i cant get any speed on that prat..
is practicing with metronom best way.. ?
HELP ME !!!
Muris Varajic20th November 2007That;s bit tricky part Peter, specially with added art. harmonics.
Pull-offs,need lots of strength for it.
Just practice it,won't come over night,
and yeah, using metronome is always great idea. ![]()
Peter6821st November 2007This is an excellent PG style example! Thanks a lot! Just one question. What's your sound setup?
Muris Varajic21st November 2007Thanks ![]()
Korg Pandora PX4D into audio card, that's gear for all lessons ![]()
Bulletproof19th December 2007This is honestly amazing! So much to take from this lesson. Thanks Muris.
Muris Varajic19th December 2007You're welcome,enjoy. ![]()

Thanks tho, glad you like it!!! ![]()
Joe Kataldo11th January 2008Scarified By You Muris :-D
Jad Diab12th January 2008Great Lesson, Love what you did
I got a theoric question, when the root note is in C or G or Bb, you still use your scale in the key of D
well my question is it possible, or is it good, to change the key of your scale when the note changes too ?
Muris Varajic12th January 2008As you can see,I'm using 2 scales here,D minor and D Dorian.
Both are from minor "family" of modes and they are in the same key,key of D minor.
I have same problems to follow you when saying C as a root.
You think of C chord in progression, right?
If yes,you can play 7 chords while using one scale cause those chords are made
on 7 degrees of scale, simple as that. ![]()
Ralleliciouz13th January 2008muris??
you'r amazing!
very good lesson 8)
Muris Varajic13th January 2008Thank you,thank you very much!!! ![]()
Bulletproof15th January 2008why are you only playing with three fingers at the end??....errr...nvm...your pinky is just moving too fast for the camera to catch
Nice work on this one!!
Muris Varajic15th January 2008Where,3 fingers,what??
And it's not about speed or pinky but fps ![]()
Fran17th January 2008Unbelievable lesson, Muris you rock!!
Muris Varajic17th January 2008Thanks Fran ![]()
Feel free to jump into my sub-board if you have any questions tho. ![]()
Peter6823rd January 2008125 bpm are really hard! but it's great fun anyway to play the whole thing at 110 or even 90 bpm. I've played it over and over again and I still like it, thank you, Muris
Muris Varajic23rd January 2008That's great Peter!! ![]()
Feel free to post video of your playing in my sub-board,practicing section.
Perhaps I can give you an advice or som?
Cheers ![]()
Great lesson. Really powerful riffs and notes, kinda makes you feel like a guitargod while playing it ![]()
Muris Varajic26th January 2008
You do know there's only ONE guitargod, right??
Y.J.M. ![]()
Peter6813th February 2008went back to practice on 70 bpm today. The important things in this piece are tone and timing, aren't they? So, it's a long way...
But one of these days I'm gonna be the guitar devil and I will play it, accurate in tone and timing. Just another million repetitions...
Muris Varajic13th February 2008Tone,timing,accuracy,it's all important,yeah. ![]()
Just take your time and practice it slowly
using tempo that fits you nicely.
Later on you'll speed it up without even noticing! ![]()
Danilo Capezzuto18th February 2008Gilbert teaches on this site? Wow, hi Paul...
d.
Muris Varajic18th February 2008
Good one ![]()
Carlos Carrillo11th March 2008fantastic!!!
thanks Muris!!!
SameDaveDifferentDay24th March 2008Great lesson. My forearm is pumped and burning from all the fingering. I definitely needed something like this. Looking forward to going through your other lessons once I can get through this one. ![]()
Muris Varajic24th March 2008That's great, let me know if you need any help,
welcome to GMC tho! ![]()
jstcrsn29th March 2008hello new member and muris thanks . first off your lessons have got me practicing again [alot] and am not close to your level but in 8 when you slow it down you play an extra six notes with the timing these notes work with the full video but i can't play it as fast but it looks like you drop to your d string three times
Luciana Segovia30th March 2008so cool!!! great job Muris!
Muris Varajic30th March 2008Thanks Luciana ![]()
jstcrsn, you are absolutely right, just follow tab and you'll be fine,
there are 6 extra notes in video,my bad.
Pi3831st March 2008This lesson is actually what got me into Paul Gilbert. I love it, and now that I can do Pinch Harmonics, I hope to learn the lesson all the way through.
Muris Varajic31st March 2008Glad to hear, keep me updated on your progress! ![]()
Pi3831st March 2008I have a question. Does is matter if you switch up the way you play the lesson? For instance, if you change strings, I just use tapping instead. I'll hit the same note, just on a different string.
Muris Varajic1st April 2008Well it does mater...and doesn't,at the same time. ![]()
I tried to cover Paul's style here as close as possible at some point.
So adding tap instead of slide etc might not sound like Paul but you'll still have the same notes.
Try it both ways I would say. ![]()
Pi381st April 2008Alright, thank you for the advise.
Frank15th April 2008THe only think i change on this lesson, in stad of playing the 2th video part on E-B i play it on B-G.But sounds the same.
Muris Varajic15th April 2008If it sounds the same..it's the same ![]()
KWEST21st April 2008Another great lesson - It helped me play part 6 a lot faster when I started thinking of it as the base position pentatonic scale instead of individual patterns, still a tough lick. Thanks Muris
Muris Varajic21st April 2008Glad you're having some fun with it,rock on!! ![]()
Lian Gerbino28th April 2008hi there! it was awesome,,, really sounds like PG style
Muris Varajic28th April 2008Thanks Lian,cheers!! ![]()
blazestrings9th May 2008" Jeff - how would a mere mortal like me play something like this Muris?! Forget about it! "
I was just thinking that as well lol.
fkalich18th June 2008Never seen so many comments. There is an error on the tab (section 8). First 6-tuplet should be played 3 times, not 2, as you do on the recording.
Muris Varajic19th June 2008Of course Fkalich,
we discussed about it quite ago,
I made mistake in slow video, tab is fine actually.
I hope you'll be able to forgive me like everyone else tho. ![]()
Déjà vu14th July 2008Wow! Some of there licks I even find more useful than PG's himself! (and I say that after just watching most of "Get Out of my Yard")... ![]()
Muris Varajic14th July 2008Appreciate it ![]()
Pi3818th August 2008Wow. This lesson has gotten hundreds of comments. And they're well-deserved for sure!
Alberto Catasso28th August 2008It' s incredible!
Thanks Muris!
Muris Varajic29th August 2008Cheers ![]()
gibsonmatte8th December 2008Just stumbled upon this one now through Smells practice agenda. This lesson is absolutely incredible and excellent!
There is no way in h**l however that I can pull something like this one off Muris
I will give it a go anyway and then see if my fingers and hands are intact after trying this.
Muris Varajic9th December 2008gibsonmatte ,let me know if you need any help with it, I'll try to assist. ![]()
Sto se tice E zice, bilo bi dobro da odneses gitaru nekome da je pogleda.
Naime, zna se desiti da vrat nije dobro "balansiran",
tanka E zica bude preblizu ruba fingerboard-a i onda se desava to sto se desava,
zica spada sa vrata. ![]()
cuvaj vrat u tom novom polozaju i dotegni sarafe. ![]()
bosanac25th December 2008I just wanna say thank you Muris for everything you do for us,for this beautifull lessons,I hope that you will one day become one of the greatest guitarist of all time!
Muris Varajic26th December 2008That was very kind,cheers. ![]()
fatb0t13th January 2009I'm stilllllllll working on this lessssson. Hhahha I practice every day for like 25 minutes on this lesson. That alternate picking, string skipping, wide interval, pentatonic run is killlllling me.
It's an awesome lesson though, I will master it one day!
Muris Varajic14th January 2009Practice will make it perfect, dont give up!! ![]()
Danny McDonald15th January 2009Aw man that was sensational, your tone was beautiful
Muris Varajic15th January 2009Thank you Danny. ![]()
