Hi GMC and welcome to my In Style Of Paul Gilbert Lesson! We had a request on forum so here's my due to it.:)

In here we have some riffing and soloing in style of Paul which means heavy and shredy. His main trademark in accurate timing so I tried to combine few of them. Mostly it's straight alternate picking, with some other techniques here and there. It's in key of D minor, tempo is 125 bpm,
heavy rocking feel.

Here's what In Style of Paul Gilbert Lesson contains:
-Alternate Picking
-String Skipping
-Legato
-Sweep Picking
-Tapping
-Wide Stretches
-D minor,D minor pentatonic and D Dorian scales
-Chromatic passes
-Using of Thumb
-Artifical Harmonics etc

Hope you'll have fun while practicing!!

Take care:)

Muris Varajic

muris,

what brand guitar is that?
my guitar teacher here in Israel has a custom guitar "factory" (the guitars are handmade) and my guitar looks almost exactly like yours.. except the pickups...

Muris this is great. I got a question . For the second video in where the speed lick begins , what is your thumb postion at that point ? I kinf of angle my fingers and my thumb a little bit, Is that correct ?

My thumb is almost at the top but many players would have it around middle in same situation.
It's sort of a stretch but looks like I have a mile long fingers or som . wink.gif

muris, any tips for doing pinch harmonics?

ur pinching it with ur pick and touch it with side of ur thumb.. right ?

well, im practicing but it's hard to get a loud note of pinch harmonics..

so.. any tips.. ?
Muris Varajic
post 13th November 2007

I use side of thumb AND the pick.
Pick hits string while side of the thumb slightly touches string.
Adding more distortion and high EQ shall help as well. smile.gif

Brush your thumb against the string on your picks downstroke
