  • Today we'll explore some jazz licks in the key of C Dorian. Phrasing is the key word here and it is very important to "feel" all the licks before playing them. Rhythm placement is very important, so make sure to study all he examples slowly first.

You will notice that the licks sometimes go out of the key, that is to add a little spice to the ideas. There are several ways to do that, and no real rules except that you need to know exactly where and when you are going back into the original key.

I included here several scales that you may want to explore when playing outside of the original key.

Memorize everything, practice hard and make these licks your own.

    Have fun!
