Today I wanna start a fight, Picking Versus Tapping, lick after lick they will duel to be the "king of soloing techniques". Who will be the winner? You guys are the judge!

This Lesson Will Improve
------------------------

Palm Muting - Riffing - Tapping - Legato - Alternate Picking.

Speed Metal Riffing - Picking vs Tapping - 120 bmp D minor
----------------------------------------------------------

Jokes apart, today study will present powerful speed metal riffing in the first part and some cool licks alternating between tapping and picking in the second one alternating between natural minor and Phrygian Dominant Scale.

Theory Focus
------------

The Phrygian dominant scale is constructed by raising the third of the Phrygian scale and is the fifth mode of the harmonic minor scale, the fifth being the dominant. It has the word "dominant" in its name because like the dominant seventh chord it has a major 3rd note and a flattened 7th note.

It is often known as a Spanish Phrygian scale or Spanish gypsy scale, and is commonly used in flamenco music & a lot of neoclassical music.

Phrygian: 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - b6 - b7 - 1

Phrygian dominant: 1 - b2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - b6 - b7 - 1

Recommended Listening
---------------------

Yngwie Malmsteen - Fire & Ice.

Pro Tips
--------

The study is in drop D tuning, to fast tune any guitar, even those with floating tremolo, simply match the 6th string while downtuning with the 4th one.

See you next techniques battle,

Joe Kataldo
