Hello GMC'ers!

In this lesson we'll play the same song as we did in the previous vibrato lesson, but this time we are only allowed to create the vibrato by using the whammy bar! Some guitarists actually prefer this type of vibrato and use it all the time. Though, in my taste this sounds a bit too squeaking to use that much. But I think it's a great complement to the other more common technique (where we bend and release the string with the left hand).

I'm most comfortable with holding the whammy bar between the index- and middle finger, but for the "extreme whamming" I grab it with all the fingers. Try out all the different ways to hold it to find the way that suits you the best, but keep in mind that you must be able to pick the strings as well (so it's not a good idea to hold it with all the fingers, all the time).

"Over do" the motion in the beginning so you learn where the limits are (how much you can pull/push the whammy bar). You'll find that even a small motion will change the pitch, and you must have control over that.

Good luck! :)

I think I prefer the sound of the fingers. It makes the vibrato sound way more emotional. The whammy bar makes it sound too artifical to me.

Sounds great! I love the whammy Bar, except I can't get those whammy harmonics, the Artificials are easy but its just those I can't get.
