Kristofer Dahl27th March 2007Yes Gabriel - you display some awesome chops, tight, clean & fast!
Was Yngwie one of your early influences? ![]()
ezravdb27th March 2007that was pretty bad ass ![]()
Gabriel Leopardi27th March 2007Thank you very much!
yes, Yngwie has been one of my earlier influences. When I was 15 I became a Yngwie fan and I studied him completely. I learnt a lot of his solos and improvisations.
Brandon200227th March 2007two words... bad ass
TheProof27th March 2007awesome playing but there isnt a guitarist i hate more than the ego maniacal yngwieXD
Gren28th March 2007Awesome lesson!
stratman3328th March 2007cool lesson, but thats out of reach at my stage of playing guitar
Kristofer Dahl28th March 2007I do understand what you mean with "reach" - however I think many are the guitarist who begin with something that's way beyond their reach just to nail one lick/passage. Well, actually not nail just atempt to nail - sometime that can be what triggers!
Don't set your goal to be able to play like Gabriel, start by attempting to play it like the slow illustrations - if you get that down in acouple of months you can be very happy and you will have made awesome progress! /Kris ![]()
Very good speed exercise. Love it!
Jeff28th March 2007Gabriel -
This is awesome man! Another thing to practice - I need more time!!
Jeff28th March 2007Gabriel
It almost sounds like you are sliding from the 5 position E string to 12 position. Is that correct? Maybe I am hearing it wrong. It is very fast! Like this: ???
e|---8p-5-------5-(sl)-12p-8---------8---|
B|--------5---5-------------10---10-----|
G|----------5------------------9--------|
D|--------------------------------------|
A|--------------------------------------|
E|--------------------------------------|
The Uncreator28th March 2007Great Lesson. gotta go practice this.
Gabriel Leopardi29th March 2007Hi Hockey Kid! I agree with Kris.
Gabriel Leopardi29th March 2007Hi Jeff. There isn't slide. The arpeggios are being played too fast.
leedbreak29th March 2007Yes, this is the kind of stuff I joined for, thanks
Brandon20022nd April 2007awesome lesson, i got it memorized im just a little slow
. are we going to see any more yngwie style lessons in the future? oh i noticed in section 7 the first lick of the tab is off from what your playing.

Gabriel Leopardi2nd April 2007Hi Ace! This week we are going to see the Yngwie lesson 2.
Thanks for your correction. I'll check it.
lefty012nd April 2007Wow! I am 38 years old, and have only begun to play, I started only six months ago. I have loved neo-classical for a long time (since the 80's), but NEVER thought I would be able to play anything close to it. Your lesson(s) show me I can. Please keep them coming. Also great to see a Les Paul player playing this style of music.
What other gear are you using? You have a great tone.
Gabriel Leopardi3rd April 2007Thank you lefty! I recorded the guitar with a Shure sm-57 mic and I used marshall valvestate 8080 amp distortion.
Elson5th April 2007I'm really impressed that how clean and fast u can play..Do u use any noise reduction effects or something similar? Thanks
Brandon20025th April 2007
Gabriel Leopardi6th April 2007Hi kianyip! I haven't any effect. It's just me and my amp distortion.
hey wuts up great lesson i just have one question its about the step number seven i was just wonderin, i can't tell by your fingers but is it supposed to go 10-13-12-10-12-13 because it says to reach from 8 to 13 and it kind doesn't sound the same as the way you play it but i was just wonderin?
once again i love these lessons there awsome!
GuitarDude2nd May 2007my metronome cant do 220 bps xD
gah, I can do the arpeggios at 70% but that first one where your index does 3 frets under each other is annoying as hell, can't get it up to speed, stuck at 40% >.<
Gabriel Leopardi25th June 2007Hey tha_max! Keep on practicing! You'll reach the 100% soon if you practice it every day.
GuitarDude: You could put it in 110 and practice it in 32th notes.
Hey Gabriel, this a great lesson man, thx a lot..! it's explained very clearly.. i hope they live these videos up long enough for me to master it.. :-)
Gabriel, quick question... what kind of guitar pick do you find that is easier to do sweeping with ? anything goes or do you prefer a certain type..?
thanks man..! - and another thing... if i can get to play this piece the way you play it... f#4%.. i'll be happy for a long time.. :-)
Gabriel Leopardi31st October 2007
I preffer a medium/heavy pick to play fast stuff because you can get a more precise sound.
gabriel.-
Seamonster21st February 2008I'm getting on here kinda late, but great lesson. Totally inspired to finally get good at sweeping.
Carlos Carrillo22nd February 2008Hey Gaby!!!perfect lesson!!!nice job!!!...gracias
Danilo Capezzuto25th February 2008Bravo Gabriel
it so hard...i feel like crying.. but i dont want to give up....
fkalich4th June 2008you have an error in the tab, at first bar, video 7.
Nick32515th June 2008awesome sweeping gabe
Gabriel, I can actually play this at 220bps but when shifting up and down the neck, I don't always land on the fret that I wish to. Example might be moving from index & pinky on 5 & 8 fret to index & pinky on 8 & 12 fret. I sometimes land on the 13 fret. Is there a technique to prevent this? The only thing I could come up with is to keep the eyes one step ahead by looking at the fret you want the pinky to land on before you actually move it there.
Hi Gabriel. Wow!
In lesson 2, just wondered how the D dim chord fits in. In A minor, the dim chord is usually B isn't it? Is it normal 'practice' to take a minor chord and substitute it's diminished form, from a theory point of view, just to change the 'feel' a bit? (They both have a minor 3rd interval, after all, and the only real change is A to Ab).
Thanks!
Kevin
Alexiaden9330th April 2009I will irresponsibly interrupt "reallylongnickname" and "kevvyg", and just say that this lesson rocks just as much as the instructor who made it ! ![]()
Daniel Realpe17th November 2009I think you even have some more complex stuff than what Yngwie would do at the end, great job!

In this lesson we are going to look at the amazing guitar style of Yngwie Malmsteen. We will use some of his favourite licks, arpeggios, and classically oriented phrases. Pay attention to his many picking techniques, such as alternate and sweep picking, and his scale choices. You should incorporate this techniques and scales to your playing and composing.
