A while back i posted a problem about my fingers getting really messed up from playing guitar. like not the normal wear and tear but rashes, bleeding, etc. Well it turns out I'm allergic to nickel which as you may know almost all electric guitar strings are made from. Does anyone have any suggestions for strings that have no nickel in them or strings that have some type of coating so that I wouldn't be touching the metal?

I also plan on having my guitar re-fretted with frets that have no nickel in them. (even stainless steel has a percentage of nickel in it so I have to go with a special gold colored alloy)

Any advice will be greatly appreciated! This is VERY important to me because if I can't find some solution to this problem I may have to quit playing completely!

OK guys I need some serious advice. About a month ago I started getting this weird dry skin problem on my left pinky and ring finger. It's kind of hard to explain but it covers the ends of both fingers and will crack and bleed when I play for more than an hour. After that happens its so painful I have to stop playing for a couple days. mad.gif (sorry for the gross details but I'm just telling it how it is) I've tried playing with band-aids and plastic tape on my fingers (makes me feel like tony Ioni lol) to prevent further injuries but they end up coming off and I keep playing and end up further injuring my fingers.

This is NOT the usual skin tearing from normal playing. I have had that plenty of times in my playing and have built up callouses already but this is NOT from normal wear and tear. This is from a skin condition I used to get every once in a while.

Should I stop playing for a while to let it heal? I would hate to get out of practice, plus every time I try to quit playing I end up getting bored and playing anyway.

Well, after playing a lot of guitars I finally decided on getting an Ibanez rg1570 prestige with the mirage blue finish. I was stuck between getting an Ibanez S or an RG for a while now. I really liked how extremely thin the S was and I loved the ZR tremolo but after playing a bunch of them up at guitar center I really liked how the RG felt better. They didn't have any of the prestige models up there and I really wanted the edge pro tremolo over the edge III so I decided to take a leap of faith and just order it online. I can't wait to get it.

Anybody have this guitar? comments?

I think I'm gonna try to set the action on my squier jagmaster a little lower. What's the procedure for this? it just has a normal strat style bridge. do I just lower it as low as I can without getting any fret buzz? any info is appreciated. thanks guys wink.gif

First of all I'd like to say that there are not many metal bands that I really listen to a lot but Mastodon is one of those bands that I love every single track on every cd they have. They aren't all that popular but they definately make some good music with a lot of quality guitar work. If you haven't heard them before I would definately check them out. Their style is kind of like progressive metal though I've heard some people call it stoner metal.

If you are new to them I would recommend their latest album "blood mountain" or their second album "leviathan" (the whole leviathan album is based on the novel "Moby Dick" which I think is pretty cool) wink.gif
