I am a software developer from Poland.

I used to play a classic and then an acoustic guitar as a teenager. While in school founded a garage band and played a rythm guitar.

Now, after so many years, I want to learn playing for real :)

I'm working on a phrygian solo from Muris
Lesson from Muris Varajic

I was practicing it on a slowed down tempo for the whole time (due to the ending). And... today I forgot to slow it down wink.gif here's the result. Still have to work on vibrato and bends - and general clarity, but it starts to remind the original wink.gif

Currently I'm playing this nice solo from Carlos Carrillo:

The issue is when I play it with high gain, it's not forgiving even a smallest touch of a neghbour string wink.gif How to train a clean play of such solo, if it has so many vibratos?

Here's how it goes for me wink.gif

While practicing bending etc., I had to give a rest to my fingers wink.gif so I took the old lesson from Carlos Carrillo on a ballad based on one of Fireflight's ballads.

Initially my biggest problems were in the second part with strumming 1/16th chords, but now I'm playing it almost well, now the biggest problem is, what initially was the easiest one wink.gif the intro, where string skipping causes some inconsistencies in my precision wink.gif
However, the thir guitar, which is playing nice octaves, gives so many harmonics... it requires strumming with some strings muted (but they give some harmonics either way), I have no idea how to overcome this, except for EQ'ing wink.gif

This is the original lesson: Fireflight'ish ballad

I didn't like the given backing track, as it was prepared for playing all of the 3 guitars in one go, so I prepared my own track from scratch smile.gif and played all of the guitars for myself. I double tracked them. No video yet, as it's not ready yet, as you can hear.

And when working on this, I understood, where's my timing problem: the first 1-2 bars. Usually by the 3rd bar I'm all in a tempo wink.gif and yes, I'm using metronome's count-in, but it doesn't help if I'm not playing :/

One more thing: I've added some vibrato in places where it was begging for it wink.gif and it wasn't there in original lesson.

Anyway, here's a current status of the recording:

Hi.
Two things goes first to my playing:

1. Whenever I hit Rec button, I'm going blank wink.gif keeping forgetting what's next note, making mistakes etc. Is recording only way to fight this?

2. Power chords vs my thumb.
I came to an electric guitar from the old days, playing the classic and acoustic guitars of a very bad condition. I mean, string action like a centimeter was not so high biggrin.gif
So yes, I know I need to teach my muscles to relief my hand. And in most cases I learned to use a proper position, but for some reason, when playing power chords, I'm again pressing my thumg on the neck like crazy... after few minutes it's soring.

I will post you a simple example video of me playing the song, which cannot be played at music stores wink.gif
It's double tracked, so even in this simple example you can spot differences between channels, which means I didn't played them exactly the same...

So, what should I do, to correct my left hand positioning?
In 1:24 you can see I switched to a relaxed position, but I was using only one finger to press two strings. When got to a full powerchord, I again went for this "classic" position.

Hi there, all!
I've been here for a looong time, over 10 years now (12? 13? Maybe even more...).
But I wasn't playing too much, due to lack of time sad.gif so, I thought I need to get back to it. I can see many things have changed here.
Before I left, I was doing mainly lessons from Lian, Marcus, Muris and Emir. I think I should redo most of them before getting any new ones wink.gif
So see you in REC board soon! smile.gif
