THE LAST VERSION WITH VOCALS IS HERE: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7084686/songs/Superbus_-_Le_Loup_voix.mp3
-------------
Hi,
i'm working on another cover of a french band song called "le loup" by "superbus", it's a simple song with two verses and a chorus without vocals. I haven't recorded the vocals yet, but i recorded all the intruments.
It contains for guitars:
- a clean guitar and a distorted one during verse, one on each channel
- 3 distorted guitars during the chorus, one left, one right and a stereo
- ans another guitar during the last part of the last chorus
i have a bass, a piano, a violin, and drums.
What do you think of it ? There's not many variations so it will sound better with the vocals.
Here is the track in MP3: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7084686/songs/Superbus_-_Le_Loup.mp3
It's been recorded with reaper 4 alpha, with my gibson les paul studio and my fender gdec 3 amp.
Thanks to share your comments and advices to help me improve the track.
The original song is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n0Y6Bu_-10E
i made a few changes to drums and bass.
Are you trying to replicate the original? Or do you just want as good of a sound on your cover, if not better?
hi, no no, i don't want to replicate the track exactly as it is, i wanna practice playing and recording doing many songs. What i am looking for is understanding how the song are constructed in order to one day write mine own songs, and it's a good to way to work my recording.
What i also like is to see how i can play many guitars in harmony.
You think it's bad ?
The lead guitar that kicks in at 1:04 sounds a bit too nasal, it needs more of of a kick.
Overall, timing is good, but it isn't perfect yet, e.g. the lead guitar at 0:04 doesn't always come down right on the beat, sometimes very slightly before, sometimes very slightly after. I must stress that the timing issue is tiny, though.
The guitar in the original is clean in that area, with a tiny bit of chorus added, yours is distorted. I reckon that if you manage to switch to a cleaner sound, you'll make the chorus jump out more, there'll be a greater difference. From a lullaby to a roaring chorus!
The rhythm guitars in the chorus need to sound grittier, more punky.
The drums in the chorus need to sound more alive, more aggressive, to match the rhythm guitar.

That's all I can think of for now, it's sounding nice
thanks dark dude, i'll work on it and post it back !
Tu va mettre la voix aussi ?
Bonne continuation pour ton cover et sympa ta chaine youtube
Yeah, it says in the main post that he hasn't recorded the vocals yet, so I assume so
And here is a version with vocals,it sounds much better, i have also changed some things.
I know that i have to lower the volume of the vocal at the end of the second verse, and i will do it, but i'm tired now !
